Nice to see some good gas mileage from a Subaru!

40mpg from an Elantra and a $2k used Jeep Cherokee would cost as much. Not to mention, a set of snow tires on steelies on an Elantra is cheaper still and handles pretty much everything DC could conjure up in our short 3 month winters.

okay, fine. perfect all-weather commuter for those who can either only own one car, don't want to mess with a used cherokee, or need a car that sees poor weather more than 3 months of the year.

better?

I have yet to read an independent report of anyone getting 40mpg out of a new Sonata or Elantra.
I'm not saying they won't get 40 mpg, I just haven't seen it yet.

I tried to talk my wife into the idea of me trading my Speed3 in for a 2012 WRX...that didn't go very well.

I personally think the 2012s look really good with the optional black sport grill. A friend added that option when he got one for his wife and I have to say it looks nice getting rid of that chromey crap.

yes....that does look great. If they'd put the Legacy wagon low-profile roof rails on, it'd be even better. The chunky Outback look was terrible from the start. It's not hard to remove them altogether but they are useful. I used to have a Thule rack for my LGT...once assembled, I could take the entire thing on/off in one piece and hang it on the wall. Made it easy to have utility and good looks at the same time.

We can't keep em in stock. They sell/reserve before they get to the store. Everyone is completing Factory Orders to get the right car here ASAP. The Impreza will certainly dominate the market once the supply is there.

is front legroom improved over the outgoing GR/GH? I had to swap to a D-shaped steering wheel on my '08 STI so my knees wouldn't hit the wheel (and because it was smaller in diameter of course).

Yep, legroom has improved 1.5" front and 2.4" rear. I don't know the exact measurements for hiproom and shoulder room. But I believe those have improved also.

We pick up hers tomorrow so she can clean out her car (women)...and I will placing the order then. ETA is around 4-8weeks for mine!
Most of the dealers in the area sell the imprezas before they even get to the lot. We were lucky to be there when a truck showed up with the one we decided to buy last night. I was trying to get a wagon for my wife, but the sedan that they just got in came with the splash guards, moonroof, auto dimming mirror, sill plates, and rear bumper guards. We didn't plan on these, but the dealer cut us a great deal!

I still have not choosen the color I want yet. I like the Marine Blue, but the two -tone black/gray is nice too. Black only comes in ivory interior and the two -tone black/gray comes with black interior. Subaru and their color combos???? I wish they had the cypress green for the impreza sport...that would be hot!

Marine Blue Pearl(looks darker in person)

Obsidian Black Pearl over Dark Gray two-tone

great link to see the colors: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/impreza/i ... otos1.html

I was going to go with a 2012 WRX, but the dealer dude was telling me to wait for the 2014-15 WRX to come out.

First Impressions:

Pros:
Peepy for a lil' 2.0L
CVT is butter smooth
fit and finish is nice
Good Gas milage (I hope)

Cons:
Stereo is a bit weak
stations jump in and out of HD and you get a washy sound
Tires are ok (Yokohama AVID S34D) Reviews say bad in wet and snow. I pushed them in the wet and let go easy.
'water on the windows' problem (say it rains today...tomorrow is dry...if when you roll the windows down they come up wet!

I may stick on some wrx oem 16's with my snow tires. I also picked up some Hankook EVO 12s (225/50/16s) for my RX7 FD wheels for my Speed3 in the summer, but may try to find another set of RS six spokes(should have never sold mine) and mount the summers!

^ when you buy a subaru, there are a few things you must be ok with before signing on the dotted line; crappy stereo, crappy paint, understeer.

even the "upgraded" harmon/kardon system with sub in my legacy gt sounds like garbage compared to, say, the stock 4-speaker stereo in my wife's nissan rogue.
