Let us know :) I heard it's a memory/cpu hog. I really like the idea of keeping the OS as simple as possible.... just like linux/bsd does. Let the complexity come as a result of you adding only the "pretty" things that you want.

NOT very impressed so far... But it's only been up for a day now. And I generally hate anything M$ barfs out as a product, so I *might* be a little biased. :jerkit:

Somewhere I saw a picture charting the M$ OS releases and memory/CPU requirements... they drive the market almost as much as video games!

As far as im concerned there is nothing better then Win2k (as far as windows go). the only reason i run XP is I'm a gaming addict. From whati have heard about vista, sinse its not getting their new WINFS, and their new "windowing system" indego (sp?) WTF does it have thats new!!!

so i may never "upgrade"

You do know that the new Halo for the PC will REQUIRE Vista. WTF. I REALLY hate being pigeon holed into "upgrading" Winbloze. I'm not much of a Halo player, so I guess it doesn't matter much though.

BTW, I'll be updating the Battlefield 2 server tonight :)

I read about the new hard drive design that Visa will utalize (once they start manufacturing them  ) by integrating flash memory into the HD to speed up booting and application startup/shutdown. sounds interesting... also heard that Vi$ta will take a monster video card to run with all the bells and whistles.

if you really want to play Halo 3 buy a 360. will be cheaper than the upgrade process to Vi$ta...

I'm not a fan boy for any of the consoles. I'll evaluate the PS3 when it finally comes out. I'm pretty upset with Sony in general these days... the 360 looks like good hardware but not fantastic. once some good games come out (Forza 2?) I'll look into getting one. the Revolution sounds really interesting but, again, the games will be the real test.

Halo was a great game and Halo 2 was good. it's a different market from PC gaming. I like both console and PC gaming.

not being much of a gamer (i played max payne once, lol) i've never been to concerned about consoles. Although I did have the ps2 linux kit at one point, the compile times were stupid long (think an entire day just for mozilla) so i lost interest. Oh well...

I ran across a good tutorial about modding an XBox to convert it to a Media Center PC. looking pretty interesting and fairly cheep. and of course people have been running Linux on them for a while now.

back in the day a guy I knew came up with a system for using a Dreamcast array as a rendering machine. I think he used UNIX but I don't remember all the details.

Converting the XBox to a media center is actually very easy. There are kit's available that can be installed in like 30 minutes now by novices.

IIRC, the rendering farms that came up from the Dreamcast used NetBSD, which is probably the most ported OS out there :)
