VW has officially unveiled the all-new 2012 Beetle and it's a huge improvement over the current model. We've seen spy photos and even a sneak peak on Oprah's show, but the final look is definitely better than we expected.
According to VW the new Beetle moves away from the current design, which dates back to 1998 and instead draws styling cues from the original Beetle and the Beetle Ragster concept that debuted in 2005. The new Beetle is longer, wider and lower with a more "masculine" appearance.
In the UK the Beetle is going to be offered with three gas engines and one diesel. The gas engines range from the very small 1.2L TFSI up to the range topping 2.0L TFSI. The diesel is a 1.6L. It's not yet known which engines will be offered in the US, but hopefully the 200-hp 2.0L TFSI and the 105-hp 1.6L diesel will make it over here.
The new Beetle will go on sale in the US this fall and in the UK in early 2012.
Looks very Audi'ish (go figure). I like it!

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.
The 2012 Beetle will be available with both diesel and gasoline engines, which includes the popular 2.0 turbo. But if 200 horsepower isn't quite enough for you to forget about the girly Beetle currently sitting in VW dealerships, VW has an even more powerful version in the works, the Beetle R. VW hasn't confirmed what will power the R version of the Beetle, but it's expected to be a more powerful version of the 2.0L turbo, in the form of the 265-hp version that powers the Golf R. Yup and not like the Euro-only Beetle RSi, the Beetle R is going to come to the U.S.

A definite improvement over the last model? yes, but you are still better off with a golf if your are even considering this route...but I won't bother with VW based on all the real world ownership issues of everyone I know that has had one.

The guys over at VWVortex were recently given a 2012 VW Beetle, in which they then created what you see here. A 2012 VW Beetle that takes inspiration from the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
The 2012 VW Beetle is set to go on sale in October with a starting price at $19,765.
The Black Turbo Launch Edition is the first Beetle that is available for order. The Black Turbo launch edition is fitted with Volkswagen's DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that puts out 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft. of torque.
It comes standard with Bluetooth, iPod connectivity, three-color ambient lighting, larger brakes with red calipers, an additional glovebox, sport cloth seating surfaces, eight-speaker sound system, 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, alloy pedals and foglights.
A $495 reservation fee goes towards the final purchase of their 2012 Beetle Black Turbo launch edition model, which starts at $24,950.

Following the slightly modified 2012 VW Beetle that the guys over at VWVortex created, ABT Sportsline has officially unveiled its first modified version of the 2012 VW Beetle, dubbed the Speedle.
The VW tuning firm will offer upgrades to the exterior and under the hood of the 2012 Beetle. ABT is still ironing out the details for the performance upgrades, but we do know that performance kits will be available for the entire engine lineup in Europe. The 2.0L turbocharged engine is expected to get an upgrade to around 240-hp, which is up from the current 200-hp the engine puts out.
ABT is also going to offer a lowered sport suspension with a bunch of new wheel options. A new aero kit with a front spoiler, side skirts, rear spoiler and rear diffuser is also available.

Remove the VW badge and I honestly think it's a good looking car. Sounds like it will be quick too!
