All you've done is remind me how much I loathe IDE ribbons. My personal hell will probably be servicing computers with IDE ribbons for eternity.
All my cars have drum brakes and are sub 200 hp, what am I doing with my life?

one of the, umm, old guys here was mentioning a disk drive that stood over 6ft that Collins Radio made for his former employer back in the good old days. its on display at a certain place one needs permission to visit. I'd love to go.

every time i curse a blown hard drive, i thank my lucky stars i didn't get my start in the era of punch cards.

I concur. My dad tells me stories of his punch card days...they had to go to one building to punch the cards and then walk back to another to use them. That would suck. I am impatient.
