UN Selecting Ambassador for Alien Contact

If aliens ever land on Earth there will no longer be any confusion over who will greet them with the news the United Nations is set to appoint an astrophysicist to be their first human contact.
Mazlan Othman is expected to be tasked with coordinating humanity's response to an extraterrestrial visit, if ever required.
The 58-year-old Malaysian will tell a conference next week that with the recent discovery of hundreds of planets orbiting around other stars, the detection of alien life is becoming more and more likely.
Honestly, I'm kind of glad to hear this. If contact should ever be *officially* made, this will hopefully make it not so much of a war over who gets to actually talk to them.

According to Hawking, the most likely reason for aliens to be in space in the first place is because they used up their home world's resources and needed to spread out to survive - and that they would likely visit us for resources - and that they would likely not be interested in chit chat (esp with peons like us).
