Need some suggestions ...

So this spring I'm going to spring :poke: for some a summer setup. Basically, I've always had my eyes on a set of 17x8 RPF1's with a 48mm offset in Silver for my UGM 07 rex. This I'm set on, but I'm stuck as to which tires I should get. I wish it wasn't true, but I have no plans to track my DD so I think I'm loking for some max or ultra high performance summer tires. Any suggestions?

Or should I just ugrade my spring or spring/strut combo first (running stock now)? I only have the dough-re-me for one at a time.

Opinions?!

A rear sway helps bring the butt around, so that's always a good investment. As soon as you upgrade your springs/stuts, you're going to reach the limits of your tires very quickly. The same can be said about upgrading your tires first though, as your springs will seem very soft! :)

As for tires, I love my Sumitomo HTR Z III for the summer. I DD them and take them to the track.

I've liked my Fuzion ZRi's. I've had them on the SSR's for a few seasons now and they are just about showing enough wear to prolly get replaced.
They are considered an ultra summer tire by tire rack and depending on the size they are usually real cheap.
They are to Bridgestone what Scion is to Toyota.

There are a couple of great bang for the buck tires available right now.
I'll assume 235/45 17 size for now

Sumitomo HTR Z III: $97
Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110: $98
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec: $135

These are not in a preference order.

The Star Specs are the best dry tire on the list.
Both the Hankook & Sumitomo are phenomenal tires for the price.

The Hankook finished 2nd behind the Star Specs in a Car and Driver test of 10 max performance summer tires:

The Sumitomo has been tested by Tire Rack and came in first in a test against:
Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position
Continental ContiSportContact 3 and
Yokohama ADVAN Sport

I'd actually like to go with a wider tire (like a 235 ^), but tirerack seems to think a 215 will be the best fit for a 17x8 wheel?

Tire Rack is always going to give you OE spec tire sizes or something of the like.
If you have a tire size in mind and you know it will fit with no issues(rubbing, pulling, rolling, etc) get it.
When I got my 18x8.5's they had me set with a 225/40. I was concerned that it was to narrow/stretched. But sure enough when my springs were done and passengers in the back, they would rub on the rubber fender liner. Took the fender liner out. No issues. I don't really feel like rolling and all that stuff to my fenders. It also worked out because I can now tuck them up under the Saabaru.
Tire Rack doesn't look at suspension mods or any of the craziness we do. They give OE tire sizes even when the rim width grows by inches.

Yeah that makes sense, in an odd way.

Nabisco seems to report that a 235 on these wheels won't require fender rolling. Any known rubbing issues with that width? Maybe go with 225 to be sure?

You have a nice setup!

I love my RPf1s...funny though that I think they look small on cars if they are smaller than 18" (although, sometimes I think my 18s look small). Buddy is runny 19s on his silver STi...looks/matches perfect.

19s and above get the nice centercaps, too! I couldn't stand the ones that stick out, so I got some ones from a CRV and painted them black.
