In retort to LG's GD910, RIM has decide to develop the Alpha 1. Though details on the phone are scarce, RIM has promised a "solid selection of features" to include noise reduction and music streaming.

I have never understood the fascination with a watch-based phone. Did this all spawn from Dick Tracy?

Neither have I, really. But, I do see the benefit in not carrying a phone on your belt, in your pocket, or purse (for those of you that carry them) at all times. Just so long as you pair the watchphone with a bluetooth headset.

And that is really the secret sauce. Folks tried the watchphones/datawatches/tvwatch/radiowatch in the past, and they all failed because of the wired headset. Some good speech synth, good quality audio on a bluetooth headset, and you're ready to rock.
Oh, and battery life. If it can't make it over a day of normal use it'll bomb.

Trust me, I can operate a computer just fine left handed.
But really, a watch phone needs a good voice interface, tell it who to dial and it does it. One button to accept voice commands, hit the button again to hang up.

Plus, I'd have to figure that if you're wearing the watchphone on your wrist, you'd have no choice but to type one-handed.
