any recommendations? I don't need anything fancy, but would be handy to have around instead of borrowing/etc... obviously prefer something cheap, but to quote colin, i prefer to buy once not twice...

i would like to have can protocol, i think, any other gotcha's?

thanks...

I'd be curious to hear what you decide upon. I ended up sacrificing the ability to scan legal sized documents and got a PIXMA MP620. Didn't break the bank and works great on the network. As a fellow Air owner, the ability to scan over the network is a godsend.

It even works on her work laptop running *doze

heh... oops. stuck in cube mentality this morning.

Personally, I really like the tactrix cable and a laptop. But if you're rocking the older school (middle school?) leggy wagon, you might need a standalone reader.

I'm pretty sure the good Dr (drwrx) has one that seemed to work well. Actually, I think I've borrowed it before.

thanks! yeah, was looking at the tactrix cables... haven't figured out if it will work yet, but seems like the best overall option so i can do logging or whatever excitement (retarded) when i get off my azz and stick the mac mini in there.

I've got the mobile PSU in my garage (not using it in the forester) if you haven't already acquired the parts... Let me know if you need/want anything.

Funny, I was thinking police scanner for some reason.

I've used Darrins Tactrix cable with great success.

 I thought he was talking about a police scanner when i read the thread title. I guess those are illegal in your area though.

Do you have a source for that? Its pretty rare that its illegal to own a receiver... (but given that radar detectors are illegal, we have to assume logic may have been suspended)
