Just hazarding a guess here, but possibly to provide reinforced, level mounts for the cage? Looks like an anchor point to me...Raven wrote:What in the world are you welding that for?

Very interesting, I've never built a race car or anything like this so I'm pretty clueless.complacent wrote:Just hazarding a guess here, but possibly to provide reinforced, level mounts for the cage? Looks like an anchor point to me...

Lookin' good ...so are the payments in installments...is that why the progress is slow?...and should we expect this car to be done prior to the Mayan calendar running out?

Re: EJ205 GC Coupe
No payments. I gave him a large deposit to get everything going and I'll be billed the remainder when it's completed. The delays are due to health concerns for Andrew. There is something up with his throat and they were concerned about cancer. It seems that is not the case but they're not sure what is going on. He's back in action now though so things should be speeding up again.

Re: EJ205 GC Coupe
A few updates. Looks like the rest of the cage is now going to be TIG welded instead of MIG. The A bar mockups are done and should be in the car shortly. A lot of effort went into the design of it to produce the high level of quality this build will demand. Now that that is out of the way progress should start to pick up momentum.
A new intercom system being developed by an acquaintance of mine that is going to be superior to most anything on the market could be in the works. It would produce a higher quality sound than what is currently offered, allow audio out for cameras, and support a 2-meter HAM radio in/out.
And possibly most interesting of all I also have a lead on a custom LCD race display that has roots in FSAE and just might be what I've been looking for! That will require some further investigation before I start setting plans into motion for something like that.
More info and pics to come soon.

An important aspect for the rally application is that they are properly muffled to block out all other sounds. Its way loud in rallycar w/ engine, straightcut gears and the bottom being blasted with gravel.Cereb Daithi wrote:A new intercom system being developed by an acquaintance of mine that is going to be superior to most anything on the market could be in the works. Re: EJ205 GC Coupe
The actual headsets and helmet are Stilos. It's just the amp itself that is what is being designed.

Re: EJ205 GC Coupe
Some stats about the features in the new intercom that is being developed:
- Driver In/Out
- Co-Driver In/Out
- HAM Radio In/Out (Input Isolated by a 1:1 audio isolation transformer)
- Aux In (for a iPod or MP3 player)
- Aux Out (for the video cameras)
- Aux 2 Out
- Compressor/Limiter on each channel (will compress both driver and co-driver channels at the same time. Compression/Limiting is used to reduce the levels of the peaks that way you can have it loud but not get your ears blown out when your co-driver/driver decides to yell outside the car)
- Independent volume control over Co-driver and Driver channels. No more driver turning up volume and then the Co-driver channel gets louder.
- 50/50 split of volume over driver and co-driver. HAM Radio would have the same volume when used as well.
- Both driver and co-driver MICs will be heard over the HAM Radio Out.
- LED for Power Status (On/Off)
- Driver In/Out

Re: EJ205 GC Coupe
You're to thank for it. I got it off that link you posted in the "I think my engine is dead" thread.
I was a bit wary of an E-Bay TMIC but my engineer assured me theyre legit. Now that it's here and I'm looking at it.. I'm quite pleased with the bang for my buck. It's a very high quality product it looks like. Great welds. Solid looking.

I can't believe that thread has lasted for as long as it has. I think I put some of the first pics on there...
