Heard of Sourceforge.org? Now there's Forge.mil

Post by Libra Monkee »

Department of Defense launches open source site Forge.mil
The launch of an official open source project hosting site is another very logical step forward for the DoD and it demonstrates the department's commitment to enabling collaborative open development. The source code published on the site is visible to everyone, but only government developers can actually post code on it and commit changes.

Funny, I'm actually glad to see this. It can only improve some of the crap software I have seen written over the years!

buddy of mine is the guy who's been trying to but this together for, literally, ... well, not quite ten years now. the problem was that they wanted $800,000 for the software, and OSD/NII wasn't convinced they couldn't write their own for less than that. and of course there's that whole "but wait a minute, it's free to everyone but us?"
