http://www.AntennaWeb.org has some great info about using an antenna to receive over-the-air HD and SD broadcasts. I thought it was a pretty cool resource, so I decided to pass it on. I'm going without cable TV at my new apartment so after this weekend I'll be able to report if they're advice worked.

We utilize a combination of an older Radio Shack 16' boom HDTV antenna (attached to chimney on a mast) joined with a Antennas Direct "Clearstream4" HD antenna (mounted in attic) through using the reverse of a signal splitter and utilizing an inline signal amplifier/splitter. We rarely get a lost signal for most channels. You can always stop by to check out the setup if you like. My dad is fanatical about this stuff so you can always talk to him. We also aimed the two antennas based on signal direction and distance from posted transmitting tower locations online. I am brain-dead from long work day so I hope this made sense.

huh. I just don't watch TV. I won as a door prize one of those HD aentenna's though at a computer resales trade show a month or two back. Maybe I'll try it out.

the radio shack up the street only had gaudy plastic antennas, nothing small and wall mountable. well, they did have a $55 dollar "HD READY!" antenna but I passed on that. I'll have to check out a larger RS or maybe target.

I can't mount the antenna outside, or even near the window for that matter. I just want good enough reception to get PBS and a local station or 2 for news.

If you can't mount on the roof, I recommend just utilizing one antennas direct antenna from the link I provided.
