I bought this on the pretense that it was going to be an awesome first-person shooter. After fixing all the leaks in the city, shooting gi-normous bugs/flying robots, and going halfway across the game to deliver a message, I can't wait to blow up the city of megaton in hopes that it blows me up in real life....... Not impressed with the game.

The first two were not really shooters. I've actually seen fallout 2 beaten without firing a single shot. I was hoping that you'd be able to beat fallout 3 the same way too, but *so far* it looks like you have to fight (granted I haven't gone through the obsessive "what wierd shit can I do/find" phase yet).

(random pointless note : Mike Cain (Tim Cain's nephew) went to potomac high school.)

When the fallout MMO comes out, I'm subscribing.

-----------SPOILER ALERT!--------------------

I talk about some stuff that happens in the story line. You have been warned.

Its funny. I started a 2nd playthrough after I beat it just to see what the hubbub was about. It's insane. It feels like a whole new storyline. Hell after playing the whole game... there are weapons that I'm just discovering on the 2nd go-around.

I feel like this is one of those games that returns what you put into it. If you expect it to pander to you and provide instant entertainment then it's not the game for you. It's certainly not storyline driven. Yes it has a has a path to follow and you can certainly let it guide you around but I dont think thats how the game was meant to be played. You have to be a person who likes to explore and enjoy some of the tedium that goes along wtih it. Following the story doesn't allow you the satisfaction of finding things for yourself and altering events before you even know what they are. That leads me to said story. The storyline, while interesting, is kind of weak if you just do a straight run trough and don't find any attachments to it. I was somewhat annoyed at how fast it set you onto your fathers trail. I kept expecting something to derail you from your chase and make everything feel hopeless it never came. You just kept plugging away until you reached your goal. Sure it had some plot twists here and there but never once was I "worried" for the main character.

VATS still hasn't gotten old for me yet. Not a bit.

The populated towns, although there are precious few of them, have a pretty neat feel to them. I mean I was seriously excited to get into rivet city. I just loved exploring and finding new things. It didn't feel nearly as repetative as oblivion in it's citizens, but it was also highly scaled down.

Visually the game was acceptable. I wouldn't consider it any masterpiece of graphical prowess. Still for a grimy dismal blasted out world i think they did a stand-up job.

Audio was excellent i thought. Turning the radio on for some of those long walks was really fun. The radio voice acting was a joyous mix of absurdity (Three Dog) and empty hope (US President). As far as the rest of the voice acting went it was pretty good. Some of it sounded pretty canned but on the whole it was well written and dynamic. I was slightly annoyed to be hearing repeat voice actors from Oblivion. There is nothing wrong with them. But I have come to recgonize thsoe voices to be certain characters. So when you hear it in a totally different context it sort of throws you off and takes out ouf the immersion. Liam as "Dad" was excellent. I was hoping for more Ron Perlman.. but alas i was let down on that.

No game Bethesda Softworks has made recently has ever been able to hold a candle up to what I consider to be their masterpiece, Morrowind. But I think they made a decent game that I do not regret buying. It sort let me down. It got pretty repetative having to kill so many super-mutants... but it stayed fresh enough to keep me playing.

I approve of Fallout 3
