Say hello to my new little friend...

I picked it up from UPS on Tuesday night and spent yesterday draining the batteries. :) So far, the only complaint I have is that the batteries went from full charge to less than 15% in less than 10 hours. But it's pretty cool otherwise.

Would you like to know more?

Awesome! How snappy are the apps? Is email push based?

What's data use like since we don't have 3G here?

How's typing on it?

Does it have cut and paste?

How responsive is the screen?

Does it have MMS?

Will it cut julienne fries?

Seems fine considering it's the first phone/PDA type device I've ever owned. I miss my virtual keyboard. :( The layout seems pretty functional.
Does it have cut and paste?
Yes
How responsive is the screen?
Single-touch, software limited, seems pretty good to me for fat-fingering a lot. Again, I'm coming from a stylus background for the last 3+ years.
Does it have MMS?
I can attach pictures and music to texts, so I think it does.
Will it cut julienne fries?
LOL, Google's waiting for the programmers to come up with that option. :D

Yes, push Gmail is way addictive. :D Other accounts can be set-up, but aren't push.

It's not bad from what I can tell. My office doesn't have the best signal in general, but I've been able to download 5 programs at my desk, and only one of them had multiple issues holding a signal enough to complete the download. And the emails come through the same time as my regular Gmail. According to the WashPost today, DC is supposed to have 3G by the end of Nov. :D They just have to finish kicking DOD and other gov. agencies off the bandwidth they own.

Forgot about this one. Yep, lots of cool programs in the Android Marketplace, and I've only tried a couple so far, but they load fast and the visuals are good. Easy to get back to home and the menu button is nice too.

way cool. i've been following the development of the g1 for a while now. i really love the fact that it has a touch screen AND a tactile qwerty keyboard (the iphone's virtual keyboard blows unless you have tiny fingers). i still heavily use my yahoo email account... bummer it can't be push based on the g1 :(. maybe in the future though.

now i just have to wait for the bb storm and see what's what. :)

Is it true that you have to flip open to the keyboard to reply to something like a text message? You can't reply with the keyboard covered by the screen?

Until a virtual keyboard option comes out, maybe after the new year, the only way to enter text is thru the keyboard, which is under the screen.

Glad to hear its going well for you. I'm going to wait until the spring, when my current contract runs out. Motorola and Shuttle both have phones rumored for the first half of next year... :fingerscrossed:

I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect device... Only varying degrees of temporary contentment. ;)

On a side note, I first thought you had written greek love and I was a little :ugh:

The 3G roll-out begins!!! So far, I've only seen it blip on for less than a minute, but it was there. Others throughout the DC area are confirming it as well, but it's still very sketchy. but hey, considering DC wasn't even on the T-Mobile official radar and unofficially it's the end of Nov., I'm not complaining. :)

Oh wow, that's cool! It's sure been a long time coming. I'm very curious to hear about usable speeds and such. We've needed another competitor for a good while.

it's a nice device. i am looking forward to the 3g rollout, because the current throughput w/o wifi is kinda weak. not that i can't say the same for the iphone, but ...

the interface is sometimes a bit not intuitive, but i am catching on. it is different, which is good.

the battery life lasted me about 8 hrs with very little use, so i'm a little alarmed, probably because i left wifi on, but i have to do more testing with that.

I got 3G in Laurel yesterday and all along 95 in VA, just not in my office in NW, which is a bit of a signal blind hole as is. The battery seems to be getting a bit better, but it is not nearly as long lasting as what I'm used to.

You're not one of those people who would mail an iphone running nmap to some company you didn't like, are you?

That's it, you two are going to have to bring these phones around so the rest of us geeks can ogle and fondle them profusely.
