When you can have this from Toshiba!!!

Be one w/ the screen!
It could be the way we will be watching our TV programmes and PC games in the near future. Toshiba has developed a giant full-faced helmet that weighs around three kilo and facilitates the wearer to see a full 360-degree view on a 40 cm dome-shaped fish-eye screen. The idea of full ‘360-degree viewing is fabulous but do you guys think it’s really fabulous with that gigantic 3 kg helmet on your head? It could have been a ground-breaking gizmo if they had made it a bit small. Anyway, this gadget might be on your head in the coming time when you will be watching your much-loved TV program or playing a computer game.

I don't get it, is the helmet a screen or does the helmet have to be placed in front of a screen and it bends the picture?

If it is a screen, the WHY THE HELL IS SHE SITTING IN FRONT OF A DISPLAY? Maybe the 'rents need to keep an eye on what their daughter is watching---

The helmet is 3D encapsulating...I assume the screen in front of the helmet is for observation purposes from someone monitoring...that kind of through me off, too.

:rolllaugh: That line never fit more perfectly!

This is the classic "awesome new technology that we need to wait just a little longer for it to shrink down" scenario. I don't see this happen too often anymore. I think it's pretty awesome.

It's nowhere near this hard to convince the brain it's in motion. If you fill the peripheral vision with properly distorted images, your sense of balance shifts. Add to that even very mild "seat controls," and it's easy to build incredibly realistic flight/car sims. Why they went with Darth Helmet is beyond me. They could have used the Johnny Mnemonic-style visor and accomplished the same effect (although the effect isn't exactly clear).

Maybe it vibrates and secretes various fluids on command. Those japaneses!
