My accident in the PTuning car

Post by spazegun2213 »

Chuck, since you asked i figured I'd post up.. so here is the story.
Saturday started life with a clean tC with brand spanking new 285 r888's on brand new wheels, hubs (custom hubs that were 5x114.3) and heavy duty axles. By the third session, the car was acting funny and I ended up tearing the hub apart. The only thing keeping the wheel on was the brake caliper. Saturday night we go back to the shop and press out the new stuff and press in the old hubs (stock hubs) and new bearings.

Sunday I'm back on the old 255's, and everything is going great. The car is insanely fast, and we are kicking ass and taking names. On my 3rd timed lap for the unlimited class, I jumped over the jump, and kept my foot in it too long. As soon as i hit the brakes i knew it was over, and i was going for a ride. I slammed into the bowl and i had too much speed to stay in it. I flew out of it, into the grass and into the wall i went. I managed to move the wall a little, and break just about everything in the front of the car. The windshield shattered on impact, as well as the passengers mirror ejecting from the car. I must have cursed for a good few minutes and when i finally settled down i stuck my hand out the window and wave. That way people knew i was ok, but i was not going to get out of the car until i knew it was safe. Because it was the last lap and there were only 5 cars on track i sat for a few minutes before the EMS crew arrived. I told them i was fine and helped the wrecker guy load the car up.

After the car was put down in the paddock The whole crew came up to me and asked if i was ok before they even looked at the car. With the swarm of people around they started to assess the damage. We tore off the hood, and the fender, and it looks like the strut tower is still ok. Seems like the car will need to appointment on a frame machine sometime. The goal is to have the car running in 6 weeks for the seasons last event. If we win that event, we are the series champs for our class.... This was my goal for the season, and I'm really hoping we can do it despite this setback.

The Icing on the cake was that even with 3 laps for modified and 2 for unlimited, we were still 1st in the modified FWD (and like 5th over all in modified) and 2nd in Unlimited FWD.

yup, I'm fine, but I have a Dr's appt today just to make sure.

As for the car, well it sucks but we have plans :)

We have 6 weeks before VIR, and we are hoping to have Version 3.0 done by then.

But yes, the cage, the seats, harnesses, and my Hans did what they were supposed to, save my life and my body.

we'll be posting up everything that happens with the car, right now, we need to find out if she will need some S&M treatment on a frame machine.

Again, I'm glad you're okay. Cars can be repaired and replaced but you're the only guy I know named 'Ross'. I don't know what that has to do with anything, I just figured it was an interesting fact.

Same here. Another interesting fact, I always thought that Ross on Friends was the one most deserving of a punch to the ovaries. Complete coincidence.
