More people need to get on it, seriously. Especially you iPhone and Blackberry people. You have no excuse. There's apps for those phones so you're not using your texting. Microblogging, I find it nifty. Especially when I want to make an announcement without addressing anyone in particular.

Right now the only other person that I actually know on there is Schvin. So yeah more people need to get on it. No thinking about it. I don't want to hear "Does this really sound like something I should be doing". Just do it. You like it. Trust me. all the cool kids are doing it. You want to be cool don't you? Yes you do! Now:

Create an account-
http://twitter.com

Follow me-
You can ask me for my link but if you've got two brain cells to rub together you should be able to figure it out.

Download the app to your Blackberry-
http://www.orangatame.com/ota/twitterberry/

or your *shudder* iPhone.

Typical Twitter blog?:

"I'm rolling over on my side now"

"I'm taking a really big crap now"

"My nose itches"

??

Well I'd like to think I'm at least slightly more intelligent than your average blogger. "Hey, I just sneezed something that looks like it's alive! Dude, I'm gonna name it Carl!" It's not like you have to follow EVERY idiot with a free cell phone out in the "blogosphere". If that were the case, I wouldn't be a member. Hell, that's one of the reasons why I don't have an Xbox. Too many idiots and no way to filter out the ssstupid. No, you pick and choose who you follow and who follows you.

It's kinda like MySpace where you build a "Friends List" and only follow the people you care to get updates on. Do care what someone's up to? Don't follow them. Somebody sends one too many updates on the consistency of their feces? Block them. Like I said the only person I'm following right now is Schvin, that's the only person I get updates on... and CURRENTLY, that's the only person who gets updates on me.

Ads?! Where do you get your intel from? Much like crying in baseball, there's no ads in Twitter!? Plus for all you science geeks there are some tech feeds that come through twitter also. For instance, the Mars lander (the Phoenix) has it's own feed that I've been following since it touched down on the Red Planet.

Now that I've negated all of your statements, what else ya got?

i like it.

aside from getting random updates from people you know/follow - you can follow specific keywords if you are so inclined. for example, at one point i was following posts that mentioned "subaru", "openbsd", and "thoreau". interestingly, "subaru" came up with a lot of non-english ones and was tooooo much information, so i dropped it. but, the idea is neat.

it is much easier to spin out a clever <=140 character tweet than to do any real blogging, and interesting to see what peoples are up to. usually i try to be funny in mine or be posting a picture. it depends. it is worth a laugh if you have the right group of people you are following.

also monkee : i think sabre is on there.

I'm gonna come on out in support of teh Twitter. I was kind of on the fence about it for a while and now have begun following a few people, a few people are following me, and there is actually some pretty cool stuff that happens on it.

Toss some Twinkle in there (for the iPhone - geographically based tweeting based on your GPS location) and you have something that puts you into an interesting feeling of community. I've added LibraMonkee and Schvin has a request on the way to him too.

Pretty cool stuff....if anything, gives you some good reading when you have a spare minute or two.

See ya on the Twitter Chuck!

It has been brought to my attention that maybe not everybody knows how to follow somebody on Twitter. Well ifin you do have a Twitter account you can follow me by logging in the the website, going here, and clicking "Follow".

Or if you're just nosey you can click on the link and see what I'm up to.

EDIT: Brain moving a lot faster than fingers can wag.

I am on Facebook 24/7 updating my status. If you were to subjected to these constant status updates with no option but to read them, you might regret that. Alot.

i see it as being less wasteful than blogging. anything that encourages people to encapsulate their thoughts or status in 140 chars is good, in my book. plus, the iphone/blackberry crowd can very much keep in touch if somebody's, say, had a car accident or something. or even something positive!

Just joined. Thought it might be a good way to send out updates from the hospital / announce the big event to everyone at once.

I am ShieldsInMD if anyone's willing to follow...
