My last psu was an enermax galaxy 1000 watt :P

I'm actually trying to switch to distributed power, and use twin 650 watt psu's.
It spreads out the power/temperature and keeps fans spinning slower.

My computer is all right.
qx9700
8 gigs ddr2 800
twin 8800 gtx (sli)
few other bells and whistles.
(1.5 years old now)

The 8800's are insane-o-hot under load... coupled with 680i chipset (something crazy like 80c idle), and my case temps are really high.
Higher temps = higher fan rpm = noise.
I'm going over my components and coming up with ways to spread the heat around.

Good luck man, it sounds like you've built yourself quite a task. ;)

the 8800 series are notoriously "warm" under load. i run a single gtx (probably going to sli once the 9000 series is released and the 8800s are cheaper) and i notice how warm my room is with just the computer on. chuck runs a 8800gt and seems to be having cooling problems.

9 series is so cheap..
$270 for a 9800 gtx.
The 8800's cost more than the 9800's.

The speed is about the same between the 8's and the 9's... (8's even are faster in some cases). It was a really disappointing product for me. I got used to nvidia doing the ol' +40% speed every generation. Good thing is that I'm not aching to upgrade to the 9's (saving $).
