FIOS: 75% FTW, 25% FTL

FIOS high speed internet access is great... when it works. we've had a bear of a time keeping our connection up at Casa de Turbo. I think it's the crappy fiber link/router that they make you use that makes the service is about as stable as a Hollywood marriage. it will work for days, then it will but up and down like a yo-yo. the WAP works, sometimes. the hard wired ports work, sometimes. occasionally the WAP will be up and my wired connection will be down. other times it's the reverse.

I hate to say it but the cable modem from Comcrap was more reliable. :x

it's not the service, it's the shitty actiontec router they gave us. certain programs easily crash it. the 2 that i've nailed down are the adobe updater and refreshing full server lists on steam. kills it instantly. there are others but those 2 kill it for sure. i tried setting up the 2nd router they gave us but it couldn't establish a connection out of the box, and doing a factory reset does nothing. i might just buy an aftermarket 802.11n router and be done with it if i can find one for a good price.

I've found that our FiOS router/modem needs to be power-cycled more often than the Comcast modem we had previously. However, the longer we've had FiOS the longer we've been able to go between cycling the power.

Hang in there little campers, it'll get better! ;)

Which is why when I got FiOS the first thing I did was took the old cheapo router that they gave us and kicked it into the river. Since I've installed my own router I haven't had any p0rblems.

THe Verizon Fios supplied wireless router is a POS! My father's and a friend's at work both kicked the bucket. Just replace it w/ a nice reliable Linksys and call it a day. Don't forget to renew w/ ipconfig.

We had alot of problems with the FIOS router out in Leesburg. What it ended up being was a bad batch of power adapters, the tech said that most of the ones they installed in our neighborhood were bad (causing weird lock ups, requiring power cycling, and apparent lockups when accessing certain features), and that there were still a bunch of bad ones being installed because some techs were not pulling the inventory from their trucks. Recommend you call Verizon and get someone out to look at it.

well, since it's a modem and a router all in one, we can't just replace it.

but we CAN buy a linksys 802.11g router, configure fios' router to be nothing more than a connection bridge to the linksys, and enjoy the benefits of a normal size nat table (actiontec = 1kb nat table) and increased wireless signal range.

f***er won't crash even when subjecting it to "stress tests."
