If they do put a turbo on it (PLEEEEEEEASE), I hope that they shorten the exhaust path as much as possible. That would get rid of a lot of the lag that could be detrimental to this car.

Only so many places for the pipes to go with as low as it sits on the bay. Don't know if they will have much choice.

How To Be One Of The First 86 Scion FR-S Owners
Jalopnik wrote:Scion just announced at the Detroit Auto Show they'd be allowing customers to sign up for a chance to be one of the original 86 buyers.
Just head over to scionfirst86.com on January 12th, 2012 at 12:00 pm (multiply those numbers and you get 86) to register. According to Scion VP Jack Hollis, there's no advantage to being the first to register as the drawing will be random.

Hollis also promised special gifts and deliveries for owners. This deal only applies to people within the United States. Suck it, Canada!

Is that with or without the dealer markup?

Probably the only way to get one without dealer markup for the first year.

I did drop my car insurance for about 2 years, but I have been back with them for awhile. Right now I have a checking account, insurance (car, house, jewelery), stocks and our car loan through them!

You think they'll be able to cut through the dealer markup [crap] for the initial allotment?
I'm waiting for a turbo so I've got 3 years or so to go... :?

On our most recent purchase, USAA cut another 2k off the "best" price that the dealers in the area could do.

You and I both on the turbo... With them using the same engine in the WRX though, we might not have to wait as long as we think!

Was your most recent purchase a hotly anticipated low volume first production year sports car?

The BRZ is going to suffer under the yoke of the WRX STi just like the Cayman to the 911. I hope I'm wrong, but Subaru has already said that the upcoming STi version will not get a power bump. :(

MacPherson strut? Years in the making and they didn't use a double wishbone? This does not bode well for it's performance on a track. A miata has a much more sophisticated front suspension, though a stock miata is quite soft. This car might be the push Mazda needs to finally build the Mazdaspeed miata they promised years ago.

Not suprising at all. Subaru did the engineering and that's the suspension set-up on the STi/WRX. Go with what you know.

Torque Report
Subaru fans that are eager to get their hands on the Subaru's new 2013 BRZ rear-wheel-drive coupe better act fast. It's being reported that Subaru is only planning on bringing 6,000 of the coupes to the U.S. for the 2013 model year.

Car and Driver recently confirmed Subaru's plans for the coupe with a Subaru dealer, while Subaru's website only states that the BRZ will be built in "extremely limited quantities." These plans seem to coincide with previous statements from Subaru. Subaru's business case for the BRZ has stated that Subaru only required 5000 to 7000 units to be sold at around $25,000.

Pricing for the 2013 BRZ has not been released, but Subaru is currently taking pre-orders for the BRZ with fully refundable deposits, although the coupe isn't slated to arrive until sometime between May and November.
 That's a damn low number. Maybe because the STI version will be coming out soon?

sometime between May and November? It's the middle of March...if they're not already a boat, they won't be here for May. How do they NOT know when the launch is? Or, is this morning *clever* marketing fluff like when they didn't show the actual styling after a year of clear models?

And, by "clever" I mean a failed attempt at drumming up actual demand outside the core Subaru loyalist group. Subaru's marketing budget must not be more than six figures.

I know 6k doesn't sounds like a lot to you guys. But for Subaru these are huge numbers.

The speculated production numbers are as follows:
540 a month for North America (BRZ)
6000 a year for North America (BRZ)
500 a month for Europe (BRZ)
500 a month for Asia (BRZ)

750 a month for North America (FR-S)
500 a month for Europe (GT 86)
1000 a month for Asia (GT 86)

Like I told some of you last night, these things are selling like hot cakes. I have already sold almost all of our first allocation from May-November.

I've only got a couple more left to sell. We are only charging sticker. I've seen the dealer mark-ups range from 2,500-5,000 over MSRP.

This alone would make me buy my next Subaru from you (but seeing as how you're a great friend, that comes first!). I HATE it when dealerships take advantage of cars selling "too" well and mark them up!
