Honda had a similar story with the S2000; it was supposed to be a limited production model so the prices got driven up.

Doesn't Subaru only shift 15000 WRX to the USA a year?

Now, yes. It used to be smaller numbers. For 2011 we did 13,800 WRX/STi combined sales.Raven wrote:Doesn't Subaru only shift 15000 WRX to the USA a year?

And that's a perfectly practical car that just happens to be sporty too. I think half that for a impractical sports car is reasonable or even a bit ambitious.

Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT 86 production gets underway
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... zYhFw81lEo[/video]Autoblog wrote:Finally. It's the moment we've all been waiting for ever since Toyota and Subaru jointly announced their compact rear-wheel-drive sports car: production is now underway.
With an official ceremony at Subaru's Gunma Main Plant, attended by Toyota president Akio Toyoda, Subaru pushed the Big Red Button (quite literally, in case you were wondering) that sent BRZ and Toyota GT 86 coupes down the assembly line. And the event was captured in both still images and video for our viewing pleasure.
Check out our high-res image gallery above, and see below for the video and official press release. Oh, and if you're one of the lucky ones with a deposit down for either the Subaru or the Toyota's Scion FR-S twin (America won't get one with an interlocking rings badge), it's officially time to consider making room in your garage.

Given the number of V8 Miata's out there, how long before we see a LS1 powered BRZ?

Great Idea for a tire killer but completely defeats the purpose of the BRZ. I think the better Idea would be to start a pole on when somebody is going to come out with a turbo kit. Everyone's saying it 's impossible with the placement of the motor but i think that's just more fuel for the challenge.

The motor sits so low it would be difficult... but I don't think impossible!

The key phrase was "given the number of V8 Miatas." Killing tires is the point.

I'd counter that the purpose of a Miata is motoring fun, hence the LS1 swap is right on target for a certain demographic. I'd love to build one. It's a convertible Corvette with less weight and a better interior.

The Scion FR-S Will Cost $24,200
Jalopnik wrote:Scion apparently announced to its dealers the pricing for the Scion FR-S, according to a leaked document on ft86club.com. The MSRP for the 6-speed manual is $24,200 before delivery and handling and the auto will go for $25,300. Both should see a bump of around $1,000 with those other charges.

BRZ/F86 owners manual images:
Remote electrocution ability prevents Mr. Game and Watch from stealing your Subaru BRZ.
Do not let your guard down. Subaru BRZ is very hungry.
While not required for operation of the Subaru BRZ, be aware that every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man.
Do not roll the Subaru BRZ onto its roof. This will enrage the Subaru BRZ.
Subaru BRZ should not be used to tow horse trailers.
Not even if you push the trailer, smartass.

Nice article in the WSJ about how slow the BRZ is.
Some aftermarket bits should tighten that right up.

I asked Masuda-san point-blank if indeed there will be an STI-style turbocharged BRZ by the time this generation reaches the middle of its life in two-and-a-half or three years. A number came out of his mouth that raised my eyebrows. "In future, there is the thought to have as much as 280 horsepower."
Well, uh, gosh, that's even a bit more than I was gambling for.
"And we are," he went on, "thinking very much about the possibility of a turbocharger."
So, could we be digging on somewhere around 250 pound-feet of torque? The master would not confirm or deny, but he did say that such a model would probably
not use the acronym STI.

Excellent, that will ruin the resale value of the non-turbo in several years.

lol, indeed it will. I'm guessing the aftermarket will have superchargers/turbo's for the BRZ quickly.

Re: Update: Subaru/Toyota Coupe CONFIRMED!!1!
It's gonna be another "I shoulda waited X years for the right car" scenarios. We can just about guarantee that there will be a convertible version, STi, and/or Super/Turbo charged version of either or both BRZ/FRS.
I don't think that these scenarios will hurt the resale though. No matter what happens, this will remain a limited production vehicle that not everyone will have a chance to buy. I've had multiple customers get upset with me that I wouldn't have a "demo" or test car for them to drive in May. They also get upset when I tell them that the time frame for their car's delivery will be in the Dec-January timeframe if they sign up now.
I have successfully sold all of our available allotment of the cars and have already taken an order for the next allotment run. Yay me!!

You're the first person I'll call when that 280hp version is announced. Hopefully they add some color choices by then.

Pricing is up http://www.subaru.com/brz/2013/index.html
So 26,245 and 28,245 respecively for Premium and Limited 6MT models. We were pretty spot on with our 26-28kish price guesstimates.

Torque Report
The 2013 Subaru BRZ sports coupe isn't on sale in the U.S. yet, but sales of the new coupe are already off to a good start in Japan. The BRZ debuted in Japan on February 3 and Subaru has already sold 3,551 units, which is four times the initial sales forecasts.
Subaru had only planned on selling 450 units in Japan per month. The BRZ will officially go on sale in the Unites States on April 20, but Subaru only plans on selling 500 units here a month.
In Japan almost 60 percent of BRZ buyers are under 40 and the top selling color is the blue mica.
