Did I forget Anything? **56k warning - page 2**
*UPDATE
Ordered my cobb heat shield and a kartboy SS
Also the fuel pump is now en-route
Well, everything is either in route or has arrived, well minus one item....
So far has arrived:
EVO III 16G
SSAC TMIC -> installed last weekend
UTEC (*just looked back at my purchase on NASIOC, does him saying it comes with "ABC" mean it has a boost controller? lol, I would look but reference last paragraph)
STi Up Pipe
In-Transit:
STi Pink Injectors
Headers
SPT Intake
In the process of buying:
Cobb Turbo Heat Shield
Walboro 255 lph fuel pump
Possibly GM Boost Solenoid (My UTEC might have a boost controller with it)
So have I forgotten anything....?
Also I'll be posting shortly on who can give me a few helping hands at the Andrews AFB Auto shop one weekend or two.... I can get people on base if they can't get on themselves.
This install day(s) will be the last to hang out with DCAWD folk as I'm moving to New Mexico (Got orders to another unit) at the end of April.
So, right now i'm in Florida training until March 6th-ish. Then I have to pack up all my crap, install car parts, get a decent tune to drive to NM, and then I leave again for training on April 3rd. As soon as I get back from that on the 19th I'm gone!

Assuming you've got a turbo back exhaust already, that list looks pretty complete.
DON'T FORGET GASKETS. Buy them and hold onto them. You might use them, you might not need to (depending on mileage). If you don't use them, you can sell them and/or return them.
Yes the ABC is a way to raise the upper limit of the factory boost control solenoid. You will not "need" another boost controller, just don't expect the same kind of razor sharp ramping and let off that you would get with a dedicated (read: expensive) electronic boost controller. The UTEC is just a piggyback, it can only change what your current fuel, timing, boost, etc systems are currently capable of addressing. Kind of like agents in the matrix.

I may not be up on all the fancy lingo for describing turbos, but an Evo (Mitsu) turbo has a different turbine housing(flange) than the Subies.
Again, that might be a term other than what I think it is, but didn't want you to get all the way to replacing the turbo just to find it don't fit.

Agreed. I posted my reply based on the assumption that this is a 16G that will bolt onto a Subaru.

The turbo is fine. It's a Momentum 16G. It's the 16G wheel used in the EVOIII (often refered to as the "big" 16G). He brought it to the last D&B meet and had Julian look at it.zaxrex wrote:I may not be up on all the fancy lingo for describing turbos, but an Evo (Mitsu) turbo has a different turbine housing(flange) than the Subies.
And Zak, since you chimed in, you may want to offer up your UTEC software, if he didn't get any with the UTEC. That way he can load/run a base Stage 4 MAP until he gets an opportunity to get it tuned properly.
Also, if the UTEC came with a manual boost controler and you plan on sticking with the UTEC instead of using ROMraider (or some other tuning software) you can skip the GM boost solenoid if you like. You can't use both. The benefit of the GM unit is that it will likely give you slightly faster spool than a manual boost controler, but it does require the ECU to be tuned properly to take advantage of it.

Yep, the turbo was in great shape. No shaft play, smooth movement, no wear signs etc.drwrx wrote:The turbo is fine. It's a Momentum 16G. Indeed! Are his injectors top feeds or side feeds? IIRC, he has a 2004, so they will be top feeds

Is this Utec Delta, or regular? If it is not a Delta, then I can help you get it connected to your computer. From there, you get pick what map you want to use, and then we can match the firmware upgrade so we know it will work.
I would recommend that you find a map set for the closest to your setup, mainly injector size/type, turbo, and boost control. I can help you get the map onto the Utec and you can probably drive it around without too much problem until you get it dyno or road tuned.

The benifits of a EBC are the following:Idaho wrote:Just faster spooling and boost or what...?
1. quicker boost response
2. adjust ability from inside the cabin
3. multiple settings at the push of a button (one for 16 psi, one for 18psi, etc.)
The downsides:
1. Partial throttle full boost (and that is a very BIG downside)
2. cost
3. set-up

The basic Stage 4 Map should work fine until he has the time for a good tune. Just don't expect much in the way of power improvement over what you have now. The Base TXS Stage 4 MAP runs really rich and is very conservative on timing advance. The Big 16G behaves very similarly to the vf30/34 as far as spool, but with a bit more airflow up-top about 5-10 whp more. So if you can find a good vf30/34 map it will likely work well on your set-up.zaxrex wrote:I would recommend that you find a map set for the closest to your setup, mainly injector size/type, turbo, and boost control. Yeah, I'm looking into some brakes right now actually, lol.
Well I sent money for a prodive boost solenoid to a guy but I guess I was a tad too late and someone sent him money before me
So, I'll probably get a GM solenoid from IAG while I'm up in that neck of the woods getting other things...
On the other hand, I did just get a prodrive axleback! Woohoo!

Hey Andrew,
Sorry I didn't get back to you the other day. I'll need someone to escort me on to base too. What time do you want to get started? The earlier the better!
