That post isn't really about "grinding" gears.
The poster actually split the 5th gear in two.
The pic shown is an example of a 5 speed with damage (not the posters gears). I can also assure you that the damage done to the gearset shown was not done by "grinding." That is "shearing" and it occurs when excessive lateral force is applied in rapid fashion. Think high rev launches or high speed downshifts at full throttle. That is what big power can do to a gearset.

Yeah I know it wasn't grinding, just the word I chose. I was looking for a word more along the lines of destruction ;0
