A lightened up screen cap of the new Forester back end.

See here

The mini teaser site is for the Japanese market model but I'm sure the U.S. version will receive only minor tweaks.

some of the side view pix flying around the 'tubes look similar to a Matrix. not sure how that would play with the fans of the "2 Box" look. we shall see...

I'm really amazed how much the models have changed in the last year... some for good and some for bad.

The rear looks okay...hopefully, SOA doesn't screw the pooch on the rest of the car.

...And maybe my FSTi will be coming in '08?

The article equates the new rear with that of a Honda Pilot and I'd have to agree. Though the Pilot is a full-size SUV and rides high - lending it an imposing presence.

With the Forester riding lower (or at least not having as big of a visual "presence") I think that kind of styling will just look ... well ... I don't have a word for it right now. But the overall effect on me, from this picture, is one of Scion xA. Not sporty SUV substitute.

With the fold down rear seats in the 08 STI, it's quite close to an FSti :)

Meh, it's not ugly. It's like a lot of mainstream vehicles these days - non-offensive. It's not going to turn any heads, but it also won't cause the average buyer to turn away. That's pretty much the aim of a car designer now.

Wow, thanks for breaking my pessimism  I am still not happy and I don't like the looks of it compared to my '08 or the fact that the sporty side is now GONE. Looks like I will never see my FSTi on these shores....

Why pay 3 times what I do for an STi in insurance w/o the extra cargo space when I can just make my own FSTi from my '08. I just need to get my ~300WHP back and I will be okay. With my '08, the looks are there and the foundation for power is there just need to add some parts and tuning and voila! Just wanted to get a warrantied FSTi and all the extra goodies it comes w/ at a lower price w/o the hassle of doing it myself. The new Forester just doesn't live up to its expectation and is just gone blah w/ its generic/universal cookie cutter looks and lost its sportiness...it is larger, wider, taller and probably heavier now which is not good.

If I wanted a nice generic SUV, I would just get a Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander.

The new forester reminds me of a Hyundai Santa Fe.

The front is ho-hum, and the rear is entirely too smoothed over. A Forester is supposed to look tougher. But it's right about appealing to the mainstream.
