Pre-order the 2008 Subaru STI

Subaru has announced that you can pre-order the all-new 2008 STI starting November 15, which is the announcement date of the car's North American debut at the LA auto show. On the pre-order spec sheet it's noted that the US-spec model will indeed have a 306 horsepower engine, which is up a bit from the 2007 model's 293 rating.

Other info such as model packages and content are also outlined.

I like it. And after talking with the higher-ups at SOA I agre it was a wise business move, but is it worth what they're asking? Hmm. You'll find out when the LA auto-show comes around

The main thing I thought of when I flipped through those images was 'wow, its rear visibility isn't going to be too great'. It looks very similar to a WRX Wagon. I haven't had any problems with sight lines in the Forester (well, I take that back, the passenger sun visor erases 35% of the windshield, but thats a little different). What do wagon owners think?

the 08 (sti only) is growin' on me.

I actually liked it the first time I saw it and that's only growing on me more. I'm not a fan of the dash (very Evo'esq), but I need to see it up close and personal.

Exhaust path looks straighter except for the last foot. They moved the ABS back and higher up. Looks like a FMIC will be easier to fit around.

I really do like the looks of the STI. I love how the front fenders roll into the front bumper. I just probably can't afford it. Maybe in 2 years I'll sell my wagon for one.

I wish they'd had a hatchback when I bought my STi... I might have kept it.

why is moving something heavy up a good thing?

Didn't exactly say it was a good thing, but it will help with the space down there The engine sits a little lower from what I understand, so hopefully that offsets the increase in height of the ABS block. That damn block has gotten in my way a couple of times where it's presently located.

The whole thing still looks too generic for me. I've always liked vehicle designs that were different and distinctive. Cars that when you look at them you know immediately what is it without a second guess. This car (even the STi) does NOT have that trait.

It looks like too many other things I've seen before for me to get excited about it. Personal feelings about hatchbacks aside, the car looks like something I'd expect from a German automaker. Audi, BMW, and Mercedes usually make the stylish-family-cars-that-also-perform or "luxury sports cars" as the insurance companies call them. All very run-of-the-mill, looks like every other car on the road... sure once you step on the pedal you start to see where things differ. But, living in the city how often do you get to do that? Especially in the police state that we live in.

Before I get off on another tangent, I'm still not at all excited about this car. I think Subaru screwed up and I hope they fix this in 2009.

I'm glad some Subaru fans like it. here's what I think:

The more I see it the more I like it.
The front grille needs to NOT be chome plastic (I guess you could paint it a nice flat black) and I still don't like the taillights. But all-in-all I'm really liking the STi a lot! But then again, I'm the wagon guy.

The general opinion on IWSTI is that it's starting to grow on all of them... Granted there are some stubborn guys that are so determined to hate it they continue to hide behind the worn out "mazda 3" jab, but all in all subaru made a good move. They are getting good sales already on the WRX and I can only assume the STi will sell well.

I'm not hiding behind anything, I think the Mazda 3 (with it's shorter hood) looks better. I'm glad you (and others here) like it but I guess I'm determined not to.

apparently the new mechanical bits are better (other than the too-soft springs) and that's great. if they will do something about the styling I'll be on board 100%.

aw haha that wasn't directed at you. I had a few specific people in mind when i said that, none of which are on this forum.

i wouldn't mind having a more dc-street-friendly suspension.
