Turbo Inlet

Post by Phibs »

Would an aftermarket turbo inlet hose/kit help at all with my 2005 STI w/ larger turbo, tmic, injectors and fuel pump? I remember the stock inlet hose being suck and in my efforts to do things 'right' I'd like to replace it if that will help at all.

based on my experience, it's an awful lot of work (removing intake manifold, etc) for very little gain. I'd recommend against it unless you were at teh point where the inlet is the bottleneck in your system. I don't think you're at that point yet.

just my .02usd :)

If you're going to swap your turbo more than once, it's worth replacing, because the stock one is so fragile.

But, in terms of bang for the buck, it's not a great value.

FYI: The install takes around 5-6 hours. The time to do it is when you are swapping a turbo and then it only adds about 2 hours.

Basically, you have two options: Cut the old one out or take the intake manifold off.

The only reason to replace it is if you ripped the OEM one during a turbo install, you have collapsed it, you need a 3" inlet for a turbo or you are sadistic.

It will not help with spool ;)

No I know it won't help with the spool, was just looking at it the other day and it's kinda roughed up.

Keep me away, If I help you tighten it, you will end up needing to replace it with a larger one.
