For those searching for a high performance driving school (HPDE), Mazda Driving Associates, Inc. is hosting a Two Day High-Speed Driver's Education Track Event at Summit Point Raceway (Shenandoah Circuit) on October 12 and 13.

According to the website, it's only 67% sold so there are still spaces available. Note that this is a Friday and Saturday event so you'll have to take off work on the 12th.

Some details:
* Two-day High-speed Drivers Education
* The October Summit Point event is Friday and Saturday, Tech starts Thursday evening
* Drive your own vehicle at speed in a safe controlled environment
* Registration is available for both Mazda and non-Mazda vehicles, our events are open to all manufacturers (membership is not required).
* Both In-car and Classroom instruction
* High Caliber Instructors assigned to students for on-course sessions
* Run groups and Classroom sessions tailored to experience levels
* World-class and relatively brand new facilities
* Eight ~23-24 minute sessions
* Students divided into four run groups based on similar experience
* Most students qualify for solo driving after demonstrating basic safety skills and appropriate on-course behavior

I have to admit - having not been to a track event and never having done an HPDE before, I wasn't sure what to expect. Now that I've seen the Shenandoah Circuit and understand the HPDE-thing (even though I didn't participate), I'm sorely tempted to jump into this.

However, I recognize that I should probably do some brake upgrades first (the least of which is upping to SS brake lines) before I go sailing around a high-speed track.

That being the case, I probably won't do this event. But I echo Mr Kleen's sentiments - definitely next year!

If you drive a wrx, (02-05) you need pads, lines and fluid at a minimum.

Axe me how I know... go 'head...

i'd love to do this but not on those damned all seasons i'm running. should be pulling the trigger on some ecsta spt's soon though.

buy some take off RE70's for $300. they are worth it and are great tires for the track.

I agree: performance brake pads, SS lines, and high-temp fluid (all easily installed in an afternoon) are requirements for a track day. personally, I'm going to remove the dust shields before I run another HPDE. any tire is OK so long as you have good tread left.
that said, the better the tire the more fun that can be had.

I can't recommend an HPDE (esp. a NASA run HPDE) enough, and it looks like I now have a reputation for it!

Agreed on the SS lines, pads and fluid... I'll help anyone out before they go to an event just so they don't have problems.

I've already made plans for that weekend, so I'm out Next year I will be out there though!!!

seriously though they are great track tires. Hell buy one's at the end of their lives for $100 and you can get a few days out of them
