What is the optimal coating for headers ? I found 1500 deg VHT online for a decent price, is that just as good as a wrap ?

I put wrap on mine but did not spray on any sealant or anything. For the time and trouble that I took wrapping the pipes, I could have prepped and applied the coating and probably have been better off.

Yeah, I'd paint 'em. But then again anything with fire is appealing to me.

I know both Sabre and Drwrx have had good experiences with sprays. I've personally seen wraps rust out more than a header or two...

I have heard good things about "Black Satin" exhaust paint.

I would be willing to go in on this w/ you. I need to coat my new COBB DP before it goes on.

Yep!

What it boils down to:
Wraps are great, but they have a tendency to cause rust if they do not stay sealed from spray or weakening of joints where there are welds.

Thermocoating is great as it has none of the afore mentioned problems, but it is more expensive then wrapping generally.

Painting isn't as good as wraps (IMHO), but it's cheap an it does help.

I've had several welds fail because of metal fatigue. I was told by multiple people that it was the wrap (and these people would definitely know). For some reason it causes it to occur. Keep in mind though that it took a couple of years for that to happen... but replacing an UP is not something I would want to have to do even every couple of years, sadly, I have.

Black Satin is much better IMO. And my offer still stands.

Seriously though, I have no idea. Take a look on some of the typical car sites - perhaps Jegs.com or Advanced Auto Parts, etc.

In fact, try this. It's $9.99 for a can. EDIT: Nevermind - I had searched for "black satin" and didn't bother to check the resultant link. It turned out to be a black satin colored paint for plastic - not a high-heat coating.
