First Look! Subaru WRC Concept heading to Frankfurt

Post by Mr Kleen »

Autoblog post

Next month in Frankfurt, we'll all get our first looks at Subaru's new WRC car in the form of the Subaru WRC Concept. The automaker will have driver Petter Solberg on hand for the introduction of the racer, which for all intents and purposes shows us what the next-gen Impreza WRC car will look like. It should also offer a very strong hint at the styling of the forthcoming Impreza STI. The STI grille, big wing and bulging bodywork do the new Impreza some good, as this looks worlds better and far more aggressive than the soft-looking standard car. Subaru has released no details other than the two images you see here. Rest assured, our Frankfurt team will bring you the full scoop from the floor in Germany next month.

The concept drawings look good, but I'll wait to see it in person before making any judgment call!

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.

I admit that the new design is growing on me with each viewing, and in the end, it's still a Subaru, so you gotta love it!

I'm sorry. I'm still prejudiced and the hatch just isn't cuttin' it for me. It looks like a Peugeot.

And what, pray tell, is wrong with a Peugeot??

Nevermind, don't answer that. I have peculiar tastes. And after driving a Peugeot, I would never own one.

going down this road leads to "my daddy only drove a Ford [GM, Subaru, whatever] so I only drive a..."
I have ZERO brand loyalty. you make a good product, I'll buy. you stop making a good product, I stop buying.

and just for the record, I like several Peugeot products.

I like.

More interesting to me is... why the hell does that car have BF Goodrich tires... did Michelin win the lawsuit?

The words "Hot Hatch" have never been used more appropriately!

I can't decide if this thing gives me a boner or if I want to go strangle a room full of infants.

I'll vote for the latter.

The WRC version looks nice. The new WRX looks plain though, but i guess nothing that a good set of rims couldn't change. I wish Subaru's would stick to one design. Let's see...the impreza was once a two door coupe, then it became a 4-door sedan with bug eyes, then the sti came out with no bug eye, then it gets a alfa romeo front grill. The 06-07 front grille took 6 months to grow on me. Now that i finally like the new sti, subaru turns around and chops off the rear trunk and turns it into a 4door mazda3 with a buick front-grille. What next, an evo with an audi front-end

my biggest complaint about the new design is that the hood is entirely too long to pull off the "hot hatch" look. the grill can be fixed. hopefully the ricer tail lights can be fixed. but the hood will always throw off the proportions.

but I'm not too upset: if history holds this design won't last 4 years.
