Where's the IPhone nerd thread? Is anyone getting one of these tonight, and more importantly will you be at the Sunday meet, for me to play with it?

As big as a fanboi as I might be, I can't justify switching to AT&T just to have one.

The shame!

I have the right service but my Treo does what I need it too. For $600 if I could try it out for a like a week before buying it I'd probably get an iPhone.

I switched from AT&Tingular to Verizon to try and save money (part of a family plan with my now-wife) but I'm not happy with the service. Wish I stayed with AT&T. Contemplating switching back. But as for the iPhone - $600 is waaaaay too much.
I'll give Apple it's due - it looks like a great phone. I hope it shakes up the industry. But if I had my way I'd get a Nokia N95. Sadly, real life keeps me with my current phone for a little longer.
I hope the iPhone sells well initially and continues to sell well. I'd like to see the U.S. cell phone industry spurred into a more consumer-friendly environment. Plus, the interface and integration is a welcome addition. Kudos to Apple!

Why Apple's new cell phone isn't really revolutionary.
some interesting ideas from SLATE, especially amid all the fawning of most "reviews" of the iPhone.

An interesting article, made a few good points. I'd beg to differ with a few points made as well.
However, I've already said that the choice in network was a poor one for data usage. Granted the EDGE speeds have "miraculously" quadrupled as of the 29th, but it still isn't as fast as it should be.
Rule #1 - NEVER BUY A REV.1 APPLE PRODUCT - unless you can stomach the growing pains.
I <3's me some apple, and I applaud their efforts. It's pretty damn cool - for a first time phone. I'm willing to bet later models are going to be much cooler...and cheaper.

Full-on iPhone review!!
CN: Excellent iPod (best yet); crappy phone; so-so "internet communicator".
Read on... (a little too long to quote the whole review)

The batteries are not user serviceable. Not sure how that will pan out.

Are Apple's other products touted as being user servicable?

true, true. One of my friends managed to get his hands on one. I am scheduling a time to go visit him, and perhaps, if time permits.... STEAL THE PHONE.
