Re: Tires....
i used to run BFG KDW2's. now I run Kuhmo's. cheaper, much better ride, 99% of the handling. at the autoX class the KDW2's were extremely bouncy so I ditched them. I buy my tires from Tire Rack and have them installed at PTuning.NasbaRex wrote:anyone know where to get tires for cheap enough that i dont feel like im getting raped....

There really aren't that many options if your trying to go really cheap, but here goes:
225/40/18
Kuhmo SPT: $87 (each) with a $40 rebate on purchase of 4 through tire rack, total $308. These are the best performance bargain on the planet!
Fuzion ZRi: $93 (each) total $372. Also an excellent performance bargain.
Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval: $136.00 (each) Buy a set of four and get a $100 cash card, total $444. Dispite Firestone's poor image these are excellent track tires and offer the best track performance after the Ventus R-S2 Z212.
Nitto NT 555 Extreme Performance: $116 (each) discounttiredirect.com, total $464. A very good track tire, but there are better out there for less money.
Yokohama AVS ES100: $128 (each) tire rack, total $512. This would not be my choice. It is a good track tire, but you can get better for less (Wide Oval, SPT, Fuzion ZRi)
Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212: $143 (each) discounttiredirect.com, total $572. These will be the best track tire on this list! They're dry performance will surpass both the KDW2 as well as the Goodyear F1. However, they're wet performance will not.
Falken Azenis RT-615: $143 (each) discounttiredirect.com, total $572. A long standing favorite in the SCCA world, and a very strong performer, though also not in wet.
If you want the best track tire here and your willing to pay nearly $600, I would say the Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212 are the clear choice. If you're just looking to get the best you can get for the least out of pocket, the SPT is unbeatable. It will perform at near the level of the Ventus and do so at nearly half the price. If your looking for a medium between the two the Wide Oval would be my next pick. It's a great tire, and will perform very closely to the Ventus R-S2 Z212 in dry and will supass it on the wet.

I'm running the ZRi's, and they are not too bad. Fair grip, progressive breakaway, don't follow grooved concrete or ruts too much, not terrible in the wet. Sidewalls are a bit soft, but with my spring rates, that comes in handy.
Still, my fav tires of all time for the price are the Khumo Ecsta Supra 712s. Didn't last all that long, but not many do when I abuse them like that. Shame they don't make 'em anymore.
