unusual Outlook 2k3 client issue

I've been searching around online but so far I can't find any hints about this issue:
a user opens a new email and the "save" option under the "File" pull-down menu is grayed out. the save
Icon will save the message but no matter what the user does, the save option under the File pull-down is unavailable. I was not able to test the "Ctrl+S" command before the user had to leave for a meeting.
any ideas? there is the icon work around, but I'd like to understand the cause of the issue.

Looks like it is because of IRM (Information Rights Management). Check out that link

There is a little more info
here as well. Hope all that helps!

not sure if this is the exact cause, but it's great info just the same!
not going to mess with his profile unless he brings it up again. he's a GS14 so the less I show up on the radar the better.

Is it an attached message within a message? I've found that often you cannot save the attached message from within that message. Gotta save the attachment first.

well, you can make as many outlook profiles as you want and you don't have to delete any. set it to prompt for a profile and play around w/ it.

for IRM. See if he can forward or print teh message. If no, there's your culprit.

yeah I know, but I'm not messing with his profile (not even mapping one from my PC). the contractors are nervous 'round these parts, and for good reason...
