To those of you with VF34s

I went and head my stg 4 with a VF43 dyn-tuned at TurboXS and got 18.1 psi arond 4k rpm, but the boost falls to 15.1psi at 7k rpm and we cant get it any higher. The guys at TurboXS say the Black-Hole waste gate (from deadbolt) is the problem, that the actuator cant make up for the increased pressure. How does that sound to you all? What kind of boost are you all able to run at redline? Im thinking of buying a new turbo.

They are correct

This is one of many times that I have heard this about the blackhole wastegate from deadbolt. There are two options 1.) Give deadbolt a call and tell them about this. A guy on imprezawrxsti.com (StaticX) had the exact same problem (actually, he was having troubles making 16PSI at any RPM range). The sent him a new housing (without the blackhole service) and it seems to have fixed his problems. 2.) put a spring on the wastegate actuator. It will keep it closed longer thereby bringing the boost back where it should be. Really though, this isn't a "controlled" thing, so I don't like the idea... but it's cheaper than a new turbo! Be aware if you use too tight of a spring, you could have boost creep.
Hope that helps you out!

Well I guess its good I'm not alone... for me at least. I just put in an order for a new VF34 after not being able to find a fix. It's making just 233 max hp at the wheels

Mostly I'm just tierd of waiting. I would like to get hold of an exhaust housing for it and sell it, its only got like 1k miles on it. If I can't find a way to repair the problem I may just toss it out to some one cheap, or free. I hate to take the loss though. I'm still talking to Jerry at DeadBolt but it's not going to well.

jerry's a good guy. he'll try and help you any way he can. kinda the same thing happened to me with my monster wastegate p-n-p vf39. i got a bad wastegate actuator and coolant lines. but i didn't buy it from jerry directly. he helped me diagnose the actuator problem

hmmm... so Jerry helped you figure out whats wrong but that did you no good at all because it still dosnt work. I think jerry acts nice and helpful but I have yet to hear of any one who had had a problem that he has actually rectified. I'm returning my turbo to him, I'll let you know how that goes. Knowing whats wrong wont help me, having a turbo that works will. And if he does fix it I will post about it imedeatly and sing his praises acordingly but I am sceptical.

I installed a new unmodified VF34 and with the help of TurboXS dyno tunning ended up with 298.6 hp and 279 tq max. Thats up by over 45 whp from the deadbplt unit and it spools a bit quicker too. I will ship my "deadbolt" turbo to jerry and let you all know the outcome. Wish me luck.

My Turbo has been returned. According to Jerry (DeadBolt)
"the wastegate sealing area was not perfectlt flush, we have milled the housing in that area and tested it and it seals properly now".
also
"The turbo performs fine on the bench. We ran it up to 18 psi and held it there for 60 seconds. Everything appears to bo working as a normal VF series should".
Of course I have no intention of going through another turbo install or paying for further dyno tunning so I will be putting it up for sale on e-bay. If any one here is interested in it they are welcome to PM me and because I'm close, If any problem occurs (not that there shoul be any) you can return it to me easy.
