Sony Expects PlayStation 3 Shortages
The company had been planning to have 2 million consoles ready for the system's almost simultaneous launch in Japan, North America, Europe, and Australasia in November and a further 2 million available by year-end. But revised figures that were announced on Wednesday now call for only 2 million consoles being available in all of this year.

The 2006 launch of the console has been scrubbed in a number of territories including Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Africa and Australasia and isn't expected to happen until March 2007 at the earliest.

In Japan, where the November 11 launch remains unchanged, Sony now expects to have just 100,000 consoles available on launch day. In North America, where the console is scheduled to go on sale on November 17, the company said it forecasts just 400,000 units will be available for sale on that day.

Sweet! That means I can sell an EMPTY box on ebay for 400.00USD. I say if someone's willing to pay that much, let 'em. Suckers.

GT5...true.... i am not a sony fan.. amusingly enough..if i have to group myself in any category im a Sega Fanboy through and through... Dreamcast FTW!! but yeah there are some pretty damn cool games looming on the horizon.. depending on what system they are released on dictates where my main bulk of cash goes

I'd be surprised if GT5 (not GT 4.1  ) came out before Holiday 2007.

I don't believe ANYTHING that Sony says until I see it. I remember all sorts of features that were going to be added to GT3 that never materialized.

Oh, I'm sure that some will ship in Nov. I'll be getting one since it will still be cheaper than buying a freaking Blu-ray player for my home theatre. Besides, it comes out on Nov 17th and my B-day is the 18th, that just means I HAVE to buy one...

I hope your HDTV has an HDMI input that supports content protection. Otherwise it'll all be for nothing.

Julian, when you ditch your TV for a blue-ray movie/PS3 compatible one, I call dibs on your old set.
but seriously, why the rush to buy Betamax 2.0? I'm waiting for the war to heat up before I make any decision on next-gen DVD players. even if I do get a 360 this fall I won't be getting the add-on HD-DVD for it for a while (if ever).

I'll probably even wait a while to buy the Revolution, at least until the Star Wars light-saber dueling game comes out. 8)

Alan: Yep, 2 HDMI and a DVI input on the back of the TV set ;) My receiver actually has 3 HDMI and 1 DVI input as well, so I'm in good shape :)

lol, the 61" isn't going anywhere any time soon, but I'll be selling the 34" one soon! Keep in mind, it's a CRT (so it weighs 200lbs) and "only" does 480P.

I have to admit, I didn't think that Nintendo would be able to pull off another console, but the Revolution (ya, I hate Wii too) does look like damn fun. Sounds like there is going to be a big announcement on the 14th of Sept. about it. Considering that Sony only plans on having a couple of millions PS3's for launch world side and Nintendo is going to have 6 million, I think most are going to forgo the huge price and the Bluray capabilities of the PS3 and just get a Revolution. Looks like the Revolution is going to go on sale on the Nov. 1st, while the PS3 will be on the 17th of Nov.

Very interesting times ahead :)

are you sure the TV's HDMI supports the DRM that Blue-Ray requires? I don't think they're all the same, but I might be wrong on that one.

when Warhawk 2 comes out, you have to host a meet at your place.

Pretty sure ;) They release firmware updates for most problems like that though.

No worries, I'll be hosting lots of movie nights and the like soon!

nintendo will be able to pull it off simply because they are something different and they are well known... while the 360 and PS3 are obviously against each other.. the wii is just sort of... there... they have teir share of exclusive titles (unlike xbox and ps3). they have a more family friendly atmosphere...

and they have ZELDA
