Nice tips on saving power (and consequently dollars) when using / powering technology gadgets / PCs / monitors / TVs / etc.

An example:

Unplug power adapters.
The EPA says most U.S. homes have at least five power adapters plugged in (even if they aren't attached to their sibling technology gadget). I'm a living example. The advice here couldn't be less complicated. Simply unplug them. Don't just turn off your kitchen laptop, pull the adapter plug too. The EPA also recommends looking for Energy Star-qualified adapters, but I haven't seen many of these arrive with my electronics equipment.

or maybe you could get your roommate to turn off his stereo, fan and lights when he leaves his room for more than an hour.

but I digress. with the summer heat in full swing, I've been working on trying to cut down on power usage. not easy with the "techie" lifestyle I lead, but it's a start.

It really isn't easy as a techie to live a low power life... TV's and stereo equipment are natorious for pulling as much energy while idle as when they are running.
