This looks like it has the potential to be interesting.
"It's a sleek, two-seat convertible that borrows its classic American design from the Chevy Corvette and Dodge Viper."

We can provide a bit of a peek in terms of the vehicle's specifications:

* 2-seater roadster configuration
* Soft-top standard, optional hard top
* Tesla-designed 3-phase, 4-pole AC induction motor, rated at 248hp, max torque at 0 rpm; redline at 13,500 rpm
* Costs about a penny per mile to drive, assuming a time-of-use meter and off-peak charging (about 2 pennies per mile otherwise)
* Zero emissions

On July 20th, you'll be able to see the car and learn about how and when you will be able to drive your very own.

Ah yes, the fine print:

* We are currently in the midst of the important and time-consuming safety and durability testing for the Tesla Roadster. While we are confident of our numbers, this testing may require design changes that affect the final specifications. Mpg is for the EPA highway driving cycle. Conversion from electric consumption to gallons of gasoline equivalent is calculated using the EPA conversion factor documented in the Federal Register: June 12, 2000 (Volume 65, Number 113), Rules and Regulations, Pages 36985-36992. Cost calculated using PG&E Schedule E-9 off-peak rate.

ok.. other than that looking SO HOT! i have to wonder about a few things.

in 10 years when the batteries will not hold a charge, where do you get new ones? and did you notice its a 2 speed? whats with that? also, is there a trunk?

other than that i was to see the price, and if its in the mid 20-30's then that would be a GREAT Daily Driver!

Not sure about the battery. I saw that and it looks like it's a clutchless manual of some sort? They didn't really go into detail there. I could live w/ a little frunk. :D

I'm guessing it's going to be closer to $30K or higher. Their target demographic is the SoCal crowd driving Priuses right now so they can feel good about themselves. These should have quite a bit more power and no emissions or fossil fuel use. Anyone else thinking it looks like an Elise from the rear, but w/ good touches of a Solstice thrown in? I'm saving my pennies, it'll be at least a year till it comes to this area.

yes, i was thinking it was like a blind mans interpertaion of an elise. still.... if its ~30K thats not to bad at all. I mean an electric car that can carve up the roads on your commute...uh.. assuming its not 495 that is, lol.

I wonder how long the batteries hold a charge, i mean could you track the car?

I don't know how their 250 mi. estimate translates to track driving, but they do toss in the regenerative braking too, so that would help. Oh, and there is some kind of trunk, since they include a travel charger in it.

I wonder how the SCCA will class it? ;) 248hp, RWD, 2 door roadster, not sure about weight though.

scca would probably be like... "no class for you!"

haha, ok, "travel charger" could be small enought to fit in like a cubby behind the seats. but then again.....

yea, 250mi in real life is like 2 sessions at track speed, lol.

I honestly started laughing when you guys mentioned the $30k price. I figured at least double that, and it looks like I didn't overbid. looks like they nicked a lot of the look from the Elise (another overpriced car).

glad people are working on the problem but I'll be over here with my "dinosaur bones" powered WRX for the foreseeable future... :twisted:

now you understand why we don't all drive electric cars.

its either that or, because all of them that came before this one sucked; they either looked or performed like shit.

but yea, price is a BIG factor.

I'm just imagining the amount of spin they are doing with this... 250 miles per tank... i'd love to see some power consumption numbers for normal acceleration and gee-this-is-a-4-second-0-to-60 accelaration. My guess is that if any of us drove this thing like we drive our cars now, we'd see something like half of that 250...

Ya, I'd like to see how much my electricity bill would go up with this thing. Even with 125mi range, that's enough for me to get to work and back with a few errands along the way. If my electric bill went up more than my gas bill went down though, I don't know that I would see the point in this... other than shifting the polution from my own car to the electric plant.

after looking over this again, i am seriously in lust... wow. cool idea. like the electric atom. wonder how much it is going to be...
