WRC - Oz, Cyprus, Turkey out for 2007

Post by WRXWagon2112 »

Article on rule changes for 2007 from Rallye-Info.com ...

Linky
rallye-info.com wrote:The World Motor Sport Council met in Paris on July 5, 2006 and discussed, amongst other things, the calendar for the 2007 WRC season. The previously proposed split season, with a move to a summer-Spring season instead of the current calendar year system has been dropped. Rally Australia, Turkey and Cyprus are missing from the calendar but may be added at a later date, taking their place are Rally Norway, Rally Portugal and Rally of Ireland.

As a cost saving measure, a limit on the number of engines, with a single specification per year, will be introduced from 1 January 2007. The number of engines, with detailed regulations, will be proposed at the next World Council meeting.

that is a trip I will make. Seriously. I mean it. I'll go alone if I have to, but more people the better. I'll make an extended stay out of it and go see the glass blowing workshops and do the whiskey tours.

Some of you may have missed these other gems from the article:
Article wrote:From the beginning of the 2008 season, all World Rally Car entrants will use tyres from a single supplier. Run-flat ‘foam’ will not be permitted. Tenders will be invited from tyre companies.
So this would mean no competition between Pirelli, BF Goodrich and Michelin. Or how about ...
Article wrote:The introduction of Biofuel, at the earliest opportunity, is being studied by the FIA Technical Department.
And finally ...
Article wrote:From 1 January 2007, it will be forbidden for competition cars running on less than four wheels to be driven on liaison sections.
I seem to recall Loeb running along public roads back to the service park with one of his rear wheels disintegrating along the way. There'll be no more of that. 8)

Okay, this changing-the-calendar-every-year thing is a little confusing...

Article here.

The 2008 calendar brings back Rally Australia and Rally Turkey, welcomes the new Jordan Rally and one of the following - Rally South Africa, Cyprus Rally or Rally Poland.

However, this means that newcomers Rally Norway, Rally de Portugal and Rally Ireland are dropped as well as Rally Mexico. What's up with that? Why bring three new rallies into the WRC only to drop them the very next year?

This also means that our only chance to see Rally Ireland is next year November 16-18. Start planning now? 8)

yargh. lol those bastards! kinda sad really... i know all those countries worked their butts off to be included in the WRC. ireland especially. shame they only get one rally there.

on a better note... rally south africa should be hawt. tons and tons of speed a few big jumps and loads and loads of dust... jordan should be interesting. cliffs ftw!

I would definitely go if you guys went. Plane tickets to the Emerald Isle can be had for fairly cheap, and if we went together on lodgings, that would also be cheap. As far as beer is concerned, it's everyone for themself!!

I'd love to go, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to pony up the cash or the vacation time. and the weather in Ireland in November isn't conducive to the single life...
