Battery Died - Needed a Jump
So I've had my car for about 4 years now and was still on the stock battery. For the past week or so, I noticed that it was a little sluggish on start-up - that is to say, the engine would have trouble turning over. Especially in the underground, secured parking garage at work.
So guess what? Yes, today it simply wouldn't start. The engine would try to turn over, but I would only get the starter. And they'd be weak revolutions at that. It just didn't have enough rotation to start up.
I went back upstairs and got a co-worker to help me jump-start it. Then made my way to a nearby Craven Tire & Auto (pretty good place, btw) and got it all diagnosed.
Stock Subaru Impreza battery: 550 CCA (cold crank amps)
My battery: 152 CCA
The starter was good and the alternator was good.
So, $125.00 later, I now have a new battery and a working car.
End of my commute home.

To answer your earlier question, Will, no I did not get an Optima although I asked them about it. This place only sells Interstate batteries. And as Julian pointed out, I was kinda over a barrel. Not only could I not drive anywhere to buy the battery I wanted, I also had to get to a very important dinner (see this thread: http://forums.dcawd.com/viewtopic.php?t=2167 ).
So I ended up with a one-for-one replacement - Interstate "Megatron" with 550CCA for the stock battery.
This should last longer, though.
