Their servers are great products... now the desktops are a different story. I've never been happy with anything that I didn't build on the desktop though.

sort of like Compaq? in my limited server experience Compaq's where pretty good boxes. we all know about Compaq desktops...

I had two Compaq servers when I was working IT with county government. Never had a single problem, which is amazing since it was running Novell...
I have experience with Dell 1750 and 1850 1U servers, both are pretty good.

i've never had any problems with dell servers running intel chips. the only advantage in the case of running amd's would be cost, i guess, because their chips designed for servers aren't any more efficient than intel's xeon lineup.

heh; i just don't like hardware.
er, ok, i'll make a couple exceptions to that rule

Actually, the AMD's run faster and cooler than the Xeon's
AMD is getting a real run of competition now that the Core Duo is starting to pick up steam! AMD vs Intel = win win for us!

all HP/Compaq in my farm. Even the damn SAN... only complaint - their 1U UPS' SUCK DONKEY BALLS.
The blades themselves are fantastic troopers. Very pleased.
Dunno aboot teh Dells though.

Not to sound stupid but did they finally get the blades right?
They gave us some to play around with about a year or so ago and the slow POS's kept overheating and shutting down. I would rather have a rack full of 1u's than those huge piece of shits.
But about Dell....I have a new Dell laptop with the Centrino Duo processor and this thing is incredible. After being dissapointed by every dell laptop I had touched before this thing rocks!

the new dell laptops basically have alot of the same stats as the newer apple laptops. (minus the built in iSight camera) i was supprised when i checked out the specs on those new coreduo dells... those actually have nice shit in them

I am on the other side of the planet from you. I have had my 9400 Centrino Duo for about a month now and have had nothing but problems with it. The wireless won't work without major tinkering, system cant hibernate and sometimes can't even suspend. I got 2 Gig of RAM in this POS and it will run the batteries down to nothing. I have had the system board replaced twice and the frigg'n screen is like having a floodlight behind you as you are looking into a mirror. Oh, and talk about nuts roasting over an open fire, this thing runs so hot how can you call it a laptop when you can't put it on your lap?
Give me back my Inspiron 8200 please. I had that thing for three years and never had to reload the OS untill the HD failed, and then a co-worker though I wanted my machine formatted. Bastsard.

Zak: don't worry, your among friends here. you really need to let go and learn to share your

outer loop of beltway closed just before my exit for work. That isn't so bad, but the SOBs that fly down the brakedown lane and then when threre is no more road left, expect there to be a place for them to merge.
Had to pop in a bit of RATM and I think I am still a bit "elevated"

RATM would normally calm you?

Good stuff... I usually throw on "Live" for moments like that

No, I wsa no place near calm. I figure, if I already feel like this, I need some corresponding tuneage.
J-man, you talking throwing copper or other?

lol, I own all of them (the ONLY band that I actually own every single album). Throwing Copper is pretty good, Five is good too
