FUMOTO DRAIN VALVE FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Well, I thought an oil change couldn't be easier, but I was wrong. Not only that but no mess w/ the valve, just a straight line of oil going directly where it should be. I am definitely glad I bought this. Never have to buy a stupid crush washer again!
VERDICT: Money well spent. Why the @#$# didn't I get this sooner?
It also made getting the Blackstone Laboratories oil sample a breeze which I sent off today for an analysis of my oil.

The thing is one of the best things I have spent money on...they are only around $25. One time install and you are set.

Do it! It only takes a couple seconds to do.Libra Monkee wrote:I ordered mine a while ago. Right after my first oil change. So I haven't had a chance to install it yet lest I have to change my oil again.

You don't need the nipple, Chuck.Libra Monkee wrote:I just put mine on about a month or so ago. I'm thinking I should've gotten the one with the nipple so I could connect the hose to it. Ah well, we'll see.

Only oil leak has been from 2 faulty subaru OEM oil filtersWRXWagon2112 wrote:So has anyone else noticed any leakage when you first install the valve? I've had to tighten it twice now. Maybe I'm just paranoid about over-tightening (since the instructions say "DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN").

Re: FUMOTO DRAIN VALVE FIRST IMPRESSIONS
arise from the dead!
thinking about getting one of these after changing my oil and seeing just how tightly Don Beyer Subaru torqued down the drain plug and that they didn't replace the crush washer.
I found some good info on the fumoto valve at http://www.ScoobyMods.com:

edit:Peaty wrote:OK I was changing the oil on our Legacy Outback today and wanted to put the notch in the oil drain valve to make sure I got all the oil out. I drained all the oil w/ the drain plug till it stopped dripping (for the most part, I think it will drip forever) closed the lever marked the low part of the valve and then removed the plug to make the notch. I have to say not an awful lot came out after I took the plug out. I'd say what 10 - 15cc is all. Not a big deal but still it's very easy to notch the plug w/ a small rat tail file like I did. It's brass so it dosen't take long. Besides it's best to get all the dirty oil out that is possible. To determine where to put the notch first screw in the valve and tighten it to where you normally would for use. Then mark the lowest spot with a scribe or something. Take it out and notch it down about 3 or 4 threads. Since there are filings all over the place I washed the valve with soap and water. I opened it and washed it out well then dried it off.

Re: FUMOTO DRAIN VALVE FIRST IMPRESSIONS
I guess I could revisit this idea... It's always been one of those mods that seems to make sense, but I've never really dedicated any effort or money towards it.

Yes. Get it and make the notch. Makes life much easier and oil changes almost idiot proof. Had one on my '04 and got another for my '08.

I've had one of these on my Saaburu for almost 3 years now. No problems whatsoever. Used the supplied soft washer and followed the directions for tightening. No leakage in 25K+ miles.

Re: FUMOTO DRAIN VALVE FIRST IMPRESSIONS
nipple or no? I have a Rally Armor skid plate installed with spacers for my headers, do I have room for the nipple? seems like it would make changing oil even easier/cleaner.
