Mad Fox in Falls Church -

Brew their own on premises, growler fills (discounts on Tuesdays). Good pizza. Good weekend brunch.

I wish I was in to beer as much as I love whiskey.

Frisco TapHouse & Brewery http://www.friscotaphouse.com/

The Ale House, Columbia http://www.thealehousecolumbia.com/ (run by the same people who operate the Pratt Street Ale House in Baltimore {http://www.prattstreetalehouse.com/} - Oliver Breweries)

Port City has a good tour and generous tastings - http://www.portcitybrewing.com/

Mt. Defiance is a new cidery - has decent stuff so far - http://www.mtdefiance.com/ (not beer, I know)

I'm a fan of Eastern Shore Brewing - fun place to drink beer, usually has live music, beers aren't bad either - http://www.easternshorebrewing.com/

And you guys have probably been to the Pizzeria Paradisos in the area - not a brewery, but has a huge selection to choose from. I love the one in Old Town Alexandria the best - http://www.eatyourpizza.com/. Happy hour is half price all drafts.

I went to the Catoctin Creek Distillery in Purcellville recently. It's not a long drive, cute town too. I did the tour and the regular whiskey flight (actually rye whiskey (aged and unaged) and gin) and a brandy flight (pear, peach and something else). I'm not a whiskey connoisseur but I thought it was worth checking out. http://catoctincreekdistilling.com/

their roundstone rye is the single best rye under $75 imho. i smuggle a bottle home (or have really awesome friends that do when they visit!) every chance i get. i can't possibly recommend it enough if you like a smooth, complex rye.

That rye makes bourbon taste like an appletini. Super strong stuff. I left the distillery with a carpet of chest hair.
