When they talk it feels more like a "supercharger" than a "turbo", but a cool concept anyways.

Re: electric "turbocharger"
The auto industry needs to start standardizing the vocabulary, as there appears to be some significant overlap when folks start talking/writing about this kind of technology. The RS5 TDI concept employs a similar idea with a 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 with an electric supercharger to make up for the turbo lag. It's able to pump out 385 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque and allegedly sprint to 62 miles per hour in four seconds.
I don't mind when the term "twin-charger" when used to describe a turbo/supercharger combo. But there definitely needs to be better clarification for an electric turbo charger than what was given in that article.

Agreed on the lingo!!
Cool tech! I still think that variable vein (sp?) turbos have a ton to offer.

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.

Well this is the company that labeled their supercharged engine with a 'T' because people normally associate Audi forced induction with turbochargers.drwrx wrote:The auto industry needs to start standardizing the vocabulary, as there appears to be some significant overlap when folks start talking/writing about this kind of technology. The RS5 TDI concept employs a similar idea with a 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 with an electric supercharger to make up for the turbo lag. Industry can standardize naming and Audi will still mess with it.

It's a German thing: Mercedes and BMW both insist that a coupe can have 4 doors.
