Torque
BMW has officially unveiled the 2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe, which will join the BMW M5 Sedan and M6 Coupe next summer, which BMW sees as the perfect combination of the two. The M6 Gran Coupe stands out from the other 6 Series Gran Coupe models with its bonded-in carbon fiber composite roof panel, similar to the one found on the M6 Coupe. Overall the M6 Gran Coupe looks like a four-door version of the M6 Coupe.
The M6 Gran Coupe is also powered by the same 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 as the M5 and M6 Coupe. The V8 generates 560 horsepower and 500 lb-ft. of torque. It's also mated to a 7-speed M double clutch transmission with Drivelogic. The M6 Gran Coupe reaches 0- 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and its top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. Of course the brakes have been upgraded to keep all the power under control and buyers can also choose the optional M Carbon-Ceramic brakes.
Good looking and fast as hell. Sign me up

Of course, that's a poor people car. The margins are too low.

Meh, I think I'm done with that whole class of car. The M5, E63, RS6 (well maybe not the RS6). We can throw in the M6, S63, CL63, etc.
I just don't see the point any more. The cost of these over their also twin-turbo charged kin just isn't worth it any longer.
The real straight line performance improvements are only at 120mph+ and the handling improvements are almost nil, and most could be attributed to the stickier rubber they put on them. Yes, perhaps the optional brakes are better, but I don't see that many people forking over what they want for carbon ceramic brakes.
And none of these will ever be driven to take advantage of those marginal increases anyway.
I liken these to the old S600 when the supercharged S55 was available. Yes, it had a V12, but the S55 outperformed it in every way (even got better gas milage), yet the S600 cost $30,000 more. Every time I see a S600 all I can think is "More Money Than Brains."

I like to call it "F U Money". Because V12.

Except when someone with a S55 pulls up next to him and tells him he bought a boat and a full size pick-up to tow it with the $30+k he saved over the S600. Then proceeds to leave him in the dust.

All I know is this "four door coupe" shit has got to stop. If it has four doors and a trunk, IT'S A

SEDAN!

There is so much good stuff out there that the law of diminishing returns is more prevalent now more than ever.

It looks like it's for old people. I'm sure it's fun as hell to drive but I can't get over the appearance.

Add two decades, then I can see you behind the wheel.

this is a striking car, on the road. The price is going to be nuts however. A loaded 6 Gran Coupe is six figures already, non-M version.

My dad was quite taken by a 650i when he visited a few months ago. He's 62.
He nearly did a spit-take when I told him what the base price was.

This is why if I'm ever able to afford a Porsche, I'm going to get a base Cayman or Boxster. They have 90%-95% of the awesome, for so much less than the other models.
