American Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced that it is filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and will wind down and discontinue new car sales in the U.S. Suzuki plans to realign its business to focus on the longterm growth of its Motorcycles/ATV and Marine divisions.

Suzuki decided to cease sales of its models in the U.S. due to its low sales volumes, limited number of models in its line-up, unfavorable foreign exchange rates, the high costs associated with growing and maintaining an automotive distribution system in the continental U.S.

Although buyers will no longer be able to buy a new Suzuki, the automaker has announced that it will still honor its warranties and parts and service will continue without interruption through its parts and service dealer network.
I do have to say... I don't know anyone who owns one :/

Suzuki is a fantastic example of how NOT to sell cars in the US.
Everything I have ever read about the management has been massively negative.
Their commitment to the US market it's customers and their employees has been nil.

A Swift with minimal mods was the first car I rode around the 'Ring in. It was a hell of a lot of fun, more than it had a right to be. A few months later EVO declared it the most fun car for the money. But it's not a car that appeals to Americans. I liked it and even I don't own one...

I actually think Susuki makes fine cars. At least the ones that aren't rebadged Daewoos . However, their commitment to the US market was feeble.
The dealer network and support was abysmal. For the last number of years it only really had 2 cars in the US, the Kizashi and the SX4, the rest were rebadged GMs, Nissans or Daewoos. You cannot survive in a market like ours with only two models. And those were truly Japanese and suffered from the high exchange rate so they could never be price competitive like Hyundai/Kia. The management was know to be capricious and indignant towards the US market and it's US employees. I'm actually surprised they lasted this long.
