Torque Report

Image
new A-Class, the A45 AMG will be powered by a 330 horsepower four-cylinder that will send its power to all four wheels. The A45 AMG will also be the first ever AMG model with a transversely mounted engine when it goes on sale in early 2013.

The A45 AMG will be powered by a heavily modified version of the 2.0L in the standard A-Class. Mercedes-Benz confirmed to Autocar that it will pack 330 horsepower and "maximum torque significantly above 295lb ft." The new engine is also the most powerful four-cylinder ever offered in a Mercedes-Benz production model.

"Our goal right from the start was to match the output of the larger turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine used by the RS3," says Tobias Moers, head of development at AMG. The Audi RS3 has 335 horsepower and 332 lb-ft. of torque. The A45 AMG will also get a seven-speed transmission and its all-wheel-drive system will send most of its power to the rear wheels.

The A45 AMG will stand out from the other A-Class models with a more aggressive body kit, which includes a unique front and rear fascia. It will also get upgraded wheels and the interior will get unique front sport seats.

Expect the A45 AMG to debut at the Paris Motor Show this fall
Wow, someone is trying to cash in on all the youngsters who bought Subaru's and now want a "grown up car"! (Not saying I don't like it, haha.)

As much as I would love to see this here, I'm not holding my breath.
I doubt I could afford a new one.

Heh, the 335 got me like that. ("grown-up awd turbo")

But...
Looking back, I miss the evo.
I don't miss the 335.
Class is a poor substitute for fun - for me at least.

Why Is Mercedes’ Europe-Only AMG Hatchback Testing In America?
Jalopnik wrote:Some cars, no matter how appealing, will always remain forbidden fruit to those of us on the Western side of the Atlantic.

The Mercedes A45 AMG, which is reported to have at least 330 horsepower from it's 2.0 liter turbo 4-cylinder, was recently spotted undergoing high-altitude testing in Denver.

Since automakers frequently traverse the globe to test new cars in a variety of demanding conditions, we aren't holding out hope that this is a change in Mercedes' plans for its next hot hatch.

Still, we wouldn't mind if they reconsidered those plans.
