A coworker is contemplating buying his father's 1991 Miata to use as a commuter car. His father has owned it since new and taken very good care of the car, but needs to sell it because he has back problems that prevents him from enjoying the car.
My friend's question was this: is it possible to retro fit a power steering rack into a Miata that came without factory power steering?
I told him to drive the car first: being considerably younger and fitter than his father, he probably wouldn't have a problem with an unassisted steering rack. But now I'm curious about the answer...
Question about early Miata steering

Re: Question about early Miata steering
Yes.
Both of my miata's have the manual rack but both came with power steering from the factory. Other than in the parking lot I don't notice the lack of power at all.

Maaaybeeeee
But then again this was on the opposite side of the car and upsidedown on the earth.
Could be completely different when not in bizarro world.

Patience is the ability to idle your motor when you feel like stripping your gears
