Ditching utec going open source

So after learning that utec falls short in another way (no temperature adjustments) and with all the other problems I've had getting it tuned (still throws codes and runs pig rich at idle), I've been advised by Sabre to go open source. I've still got that hole in the fmic to fix (waiting to hear back from ssautochrome) but once thats in I'm ready to make the swap...is there anything else I'd need to buy? I know Sabre said he has the tatrix cable but I'm unsure if I need a jumper or anything. Once again, you guys are awesome and I appreciate any/all input! Ps aquamist system is in my near future as well!

are you going to try and tune it yourself, or are you going to get a protune? I believe you're car would need the little green plug also ontop of the tactrix cable. If you get a pro tune you won't have to worry the tuner will have all the stuff.

I think I'm going to go the "Sabre" tune to start and then tweak it myself from there...that is if he's still willing :poke:

I have a EGT and AFR gauge already. So hopefully with that information and the loggers and his knowledge on the subject I should have a healthy tune without too much hassle. I emailed SS Autochrome the night of the meet but they haven't emailed me back yet. I'm going to have to call them.

awesome man, julian definitely knows his stuff. You're in good hands with anyone on this forum. I also have a tactrix cable if you ever need to borrow one, but I don't have the little extra plug thing though since my car didn't need it when I bought it.

I have the cable and all of the plugs, so we'll be good to go. This week is NUTS for me (already put in 37 hours between Friday and this morning), but it should settle down soon. You'll definitely want to get that hole fixed in the intercooler before we do any tuning though.

I completely understand. More than likely if you're available Sabre it'll be early next month.

Sweet! Looks like I'll be tuning someone tomorrow (Wednesday) and have a full week the rest of the week. Maybe Mon/Wed of next week?

He did a fantastic job with my stage 3 2004 WRX. I had a local shop tune it and that tune SUCKED. He fixed it in about an hour.

Ever consider tuning BMWs?

Just curious, do they have OpenSource tuning software for them? No OS for the Audi's yet :(

LOL, well, it is right down the road.... IN GERMANY! How about this: You pay for my gas and I'll come over to tune ;)

I'll pay for all the gas you burn getting here. Not the airline, but you.

If you could tune BMWs you'd make good money here. People pay CRAZY money for mild tunes.

Was going to buy a used JB3 + CAN tool for $300 but one of the plugs wouldn't fit my wiring harness. After almost getting a deal I'm not interested in paying full retail, and the car is already fast.

sorry about the :hijack:
