Re: DCAWD Meet/White Elephant - Wednesday 12/14/11 - Hard Ti
Very little work done that day.
I was in full on defense contractor non-denominational holiday party mode.
Ahh yeahhahhh!
But the story continues... keep in mind, I left the office Christma... er, Holiday Party before the raffle so that I could make it down to Hard Times.
For those of you who were not at my end of the table at the meet, I had recounted a story on how my BluRay player was purchased a while back and the manufacturer, Memorex, had stopped supporting it. So I am not able to watch new releases with my old outdated, un-upgradable firmware.
Fast forward to the gift exchange and my Shann picked me a number of 9 out of 11, so I was in good position to have my pick of toys.
I chose Chuck's gift. Because? Because it was from Chuck, that's why.
I opened the bag and we all had a good laugh that it was the BluRay Harry Potter movie, that I could not play. I then said how ironic it was that just hours ago I almost bought a new player from Amazon, just didn't hit the final button. So this morning I get in and the price had gone up $10, but I order it anyway.
But, it gets better...
Later in the afternoon, I was holding a meeting with the developers, one of whom was at the holiday party yesterday who I gave my raffle ticket to. At the end of the meeting, he says "oh, and your ticket was picked for one of the prizes at the raffle".
I'm like, "oh yeah? What did I win?"
He says, "a BluRay player".
At that point I almost choked out my sammich. I run back to my PC and cancel the Amazon order.
True story!

We might not have gotten a prize at the last ski movie, but you took home a great prize from your office party!

Ah! He lost me and the word "sammich". My mind immediately went to LOLcats and I lost all train of thought.

Well, you are right to question, since Amazon shipped it anyway. Got a "cancellation unsuccessful" e-mail along with a tracking number.
I guess now I get to compare and contrast the features....

Re-gift? Or you could bring it to the white elephant next year.
