Earlier this year it was reported that Mitsubishi was going to kill the Lancer Evolution after the current generation was done, but those plans were quickly changed, but no details were released about what the next one will be like. Mitsubishi's president, Osamu Masuko recently confirmed to Autocar that the next-generation Mitsubishi Evo is going to go on sale within three years and that it will have a hybrid powertrain.

Masuko didn't reveal any details about the hybrid system that will power the Evo XI, but it's rumored that it will be a diesel-electric hybrid system.

Masuko stated, "We will start work on the project next year, and it will be ready within three. I have set the goal of developing a sporting car featuring electric power."

The Evo XI will also get a revised version of the S-AWC all-wheel-drive system that the Evo currently uses.

The Mitsu booth at IAA was a small, sad gathering of i-MiEV's tucked into a minor corner of a vendor hall. Only a single Galant was evidence that they made gasoline powered autos at all.
