2012 Chevy Corvette Z06 drops 20sec at Nürburgring

2012 Chevy Corvette Z06 Laps Nürburgring in 7:22.68... 20 Secs Faster than Before
GM recently took the 2012 Chevy Corvette Z06 to the famed Nürburgring in which the Corvette managed to complete a lap in only 7:22.68, which was 20 seconds faster than the old record.

Corvette engineer Jim Mero was behind wheel and posted a time that was just 3 seconds off the record-setting time Mero recently recorded in the 2012 ZR1.

The 2012 Corvette Z06 gets improvements like the addition of "competition-oriented" Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Zero Pressure tires. The tires are matched with all-new aluminum Cup-style wheels in satin black or machined finishes.

That's a damn impressive drop in time.

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.

Soooo, tires without air pressure?

EDIT: It's also quite frightening to me how much of the Ring I actually know.
All my cars have drum brakes and are sub 200 hp, what am I doing with my life?

The Michelin Pilot Sport Cups are considered one of (if not the best) street legal track tires EVER!
And yes, they can make that much difference.

Don't get me wrong, they are great tires, but i would never buy a set.
You can get very similar (if not slightly better in some areas) at significantly less cost with other tires.

You know that I'm pretty particular about these things. I could probably get close to the same performance with a different tire. But I wouldn't have that tire. The technology of that tire is important to me. I'm impressed as hell by the construction of the tire. And, really, I'm willing to pay for the technology, the effort that went into it, and I'm not ashamed to admit, the right to say that I have them on the car.

Yeah, I know. :(

I think I always was this way and the MB just confirms I'm a bit of an Ahab or something. The good news is the tires I have are burning through incredibly fast (gee, I wonder why?), so I'll be able to replace em soon.
