Mini releases official photos of the all-new 2012 Mini Coupe ahead of the two-seater's U.S. introduction this fall.
Pricing has also been released, with the new standard coupe starting at $22,000, and the top-of-the-line John Cooper Works version at $31,900.
Engines are essentially carried over from the Cooper lineup, with a 208-horsepower turbo 1.6-liter powering the JCW Coupe.


WOODCLIFF LAKE, New Jersey — Mini has released official photos and pricing of the all-new 2012 Mini Coupe several months ahead of the car's U.S. introduction this fall.

The official photos follow the release earlier this month of official "teaser" shots of semi-disguised Mini Coupe pre-production prototypes.

In the U.S., the two-door will come in three trim levels — Cooper Coupe, Cooper S Coupe and John Cooper Works Coupe.

The base coupe starts at $22,000, with the mid-level S model coming in at $25,300, and the JCW topping out at $31,900. All prices include $700 shipping charges.

Mini also provided specifications on the Coupe. The brand's first-ever two-seater sits an inch lower than the Mini Cooper, but otherwise is virtually identical to its hatchback sibling in most exterior dimensions.

The range-topping Mini John Cooper Works Coupe gets a turbocharged 1.6-liter direct-injection four-cylinder engine and six-speed manual gearbox. Mini said the 208-horsepower engine enables 0-60 acceleration in 6.1 seconds, with speed topping out at 149 mph. That makes the JCW Coupe the "fastest-accelerating Mini ever (with) the highest top speed," the company said.

The basic Mini Coupe comes with standard electric power steering, dynamic stability control and park distance control. Among the options are adaptive headlamps and dynamic traction control with electronic differential lock control.

Meh. The JCW GP of 2006 had 214hp and did 0-60 in 5.9 seconds. Marketing speak is marketing.

if you follow the styling progression, it's nauseating. R53 MINI > R56 MINI > R55 Clubman > R57 Countryman > R59 Coupe > ???? (F56 is next)

10yrs from now, a pristine R53 Cooper S will be collectible. The GP even more so.

compared to a forester or a rav4, it's tits.

overall length and weight are the only two places its demonstrably different and even then, 18" and 200lbs isn't THAT much. Its bigger than a last-gen Forester I think.

For a MINI, that's big.

ok, that's fair... i guess i should have been clearer initially. i'm interested in the awd model, which i don't think has ever been statesite.

amen to that! i <3 my fxti though i have only applied 49,XXX miles to the odometer. it's a 2004.

Not that it is apples to apples, but the coupe is doing a 24 hr race.
That should show some kind of survivability.
don't sound too bad either.
